The city of NeoLumen stretched like a metallic spider over a desert devoid of life. Buildings of steel and glass rose like needles that scratched a perpetually gray sky. The streets were full of shadows, but not of people; They were the shadows of the machines that governed every aspect of daily life.
In the center of the city, one tower stood taller than all the others, dominating the skyline with its ominous presence. It was the Council Tower, the beating heart of power in NeoLumen. From there, the members of the Supreme Council dictated the laws that governed the lives of all inhabitants.
Lía moved stealthily through the dark hallways of her housing complex. She knew that surveillance cameras were ubiquitous, but she also knew that monitoring systems had blind spots, places where technology couldn't penetrate. It was in these places where Lía had learned to hide, where she planned her silent resistance.
At 28 years old, Lía had seen friends and family disappear, "vanished" into the night without a trace. The official reason was always the same: civil disobedience, subversion, danger to social stability. But Lía knew the truth. They were the free thoughts, the ideas of change, that were punished with disappearance.
Every day was a fight for survival, not only physically, but also mentally. The propaganda of the Supreme Council flooded every screen, every wall, every corner of the city. Freedom is chaos, they said. Obedience is peace. But Lía couldn't accept that. Not after discovering her mother's diary, hidden within the walls of her former home.
The diary spoke of a time before the Tower, before machines, when the sun shone free and people could think and speak without fear. It was a lost time, an era of myths and legends, but Lía was determined to discover the truth.
That night, Lía met with her group in one of the abandoned basements on the outskirts of the city. They were few, but they were united by a common goal: to overthrow the Council and return freedom to NeoLumen. They had found an ancient system of underground tunnels that connected several key points in the city, and were ready to use it.
"This is our chance," said Lía, spreading an old, crumpled map on the table. Her voice was firm.
