Lía ran through the corridors of the Tower, following the echoes of the scream that still echoed in her ears. Turning a corner, she found a group of guards surrounding a man lying on the ground, injured but conscious. Ana and Marcos were already there, assessing the situation.
-What happened? —Lía asked, her voice strained.
"We found him trying to infiltrate the Tower's security systems," one of the guards said. —He tried to escape when we discovered him.
Lía looked at the wounded man, a young man with a face marked by fear and despair. She knelt beside her, trying to understand why someone would risk so much to infiltrate the Tower right after the attack.
—Who are you and what are you doing here? she asked, her voice soft but firm.
The young man looked at her with eyes full of panic and pain, but he didn't say anything. Lía knew she needed a different approach.
"We don't want to hurt you," she said, changing his tone to a more understanding one. —But we need to know what is happening. If there is anything you know, please tell us.
The young man swallowed, struggling with her words.
"My name is Jairo," she finally said, with a broken voice. —I was forced to do it. They...they have my family.
Lía felt a wave of empathy. She knew what it was like to lose a loved one, and the despair that could cause.
-Who are they? —Marcos asked, taking a step forward.
"I don't know exactly," Jairo responded, his voice trembling. —They are a group of people who seem to have access to resources and technology that not even the Council had. They told me that if I didn't do what they asked, I would never see my family again.
Lía exchanged a look with Ana and Marcos. This confirmed her suspicions that there was a hidden force behind the recent attacks.
—Do you know where they are holding them? —Lía asked, her voice firm but full of compassion.
Jairus nodded weakly.
—In an industrial complex on the outskirts of the city. It is a well protected place. I don't know more, I only know that he is constantly watched.
Lía stood up, her mind already forming a plan. They had to rescue Jairus's family and find out who was behind these attacks.
"Take him to the infirmary and make sure he receives medical attention," she told the guards. —And that he remains in custody until we know more.
Ana and Marcos approached her, her faces reflecting the same determination she felt.
"We have to go to the industrial complex," said Lía. —Not only to rescue Jairo's family, but also to dismantle any operation these individuals are carrying out.
"We should assemble a team," Ana suggested. "We don't know how many enemies we'll face or how well armed they will be.
Marcos nodded, already beginning to organize the preparations.
That night, Lía and her team sneaked out of the Tower and headed towards the outskirts of NeoLumen. The city was immersed in an eerie calm, the shadows of the buildings creating a landscape of mystery and danger.
The industrial complex was a massive structure, its tall, dark walls contrasting with the flickering lights of the city in the distance. Lía observed through binoculars, analyzing the positions of the guards and looking for a way to enter without being detected.
"There are guards at all the main entrances," Marcos murmured. —But there is a loading area in the back that seems less guarded.
Lía nodded, knowing that this was her best option.
"We'll split into two teams," she said. —Ana, you and your group will create a distraction at the front. Marcos and I will enter through the loading area and look for Jairo's family.
Ana and Marcos nodded, ready for the mission. They knew this was risky, but they also knew it was necessary.
Carefully, they moved through the shadows, approaching the complex. Ana and her team took up their positions and, at Lía's signal, they began the distraction. Bursts of noise and light filled the air, drawing the guards' attention to the front.
Lía and Marcos took advantage of the distraction and slid towards the loading area. They entered in silence, their steps light and cautious. Inside, the complex was filled with machinery and equipment, a maze of corridors and rooms.
They advanced slowly, their eyes and ears alert for any sign of danger. Finally, they reached a door that was guarded by two guards. Lía signaled to Marcos, and in a quick and coordinated movement, they neutralized the guards and entered.
Inside, they found Jairo's family, chained and scared. They were quickly released, and Lía turned to Marcos.
"We have to get out of here before they realize what's happening," she said.
With the family safe, they headed back to the exit. But as they moved forward, Lía couldn't help but feel that there was still something else at play, something that she had not yet discovered. She knew this was just the beginning, and that the real battle for NeoLumen was far from over.
