"Yes, Uncle." I answered the phone as soon as I picked it up.
Mr. Bhatt said, "Your interview is scheduled for tomorrow. Be at the office by 2 PM. Navya told me that you need a job, so come fully prepared because you'll get the job based on your interview performance."
"Uncle, I want to get this job based on my ability, not through my friend's connections," I replied.
I knew I'm a fresher, still in college with no experience. Despite this, Mr. Bhatt had given me the opportunity to interview at his company, which was a big deal for me. I didn't want any more sympathy than this.
Mr. Bhatt responded on the call, "Aarini, I expected nothing less from you. You are a brilliant student and will prove to be a loyal employee." With that, he hung up.
I tossed the phone onto the bed and looked at the mess of items scattered on my bed. Quickly, I tidied up and picked up the jug of water from the side table. I walked out of the room, heading towards the elevator when I suddenly bumped into someone. The jug slipped from my hand, and I let out a scream. Someone else screamed too.
I looked up at the person I had bumped into. It was Vedant Ahuja, the brother of the psycho, standing in front of me, looking at me as if I were a ghost.
"What are you doing here?" he asked, clearly surprised.
"What do you mean, what am I doing here? This is my home; I live here. And you?" I paused, realizing that yes, this was his house too, and perhaps his question was justified, but my response was not.
"Was it really necessary to scream so loudly? You could have spoken softly. You scared me with your yelling," I said, still a bit shaken. He had indeed screamed quite loudly.
"I'm the one who's scared seeing you here. Aren't you the same girl who was at the party that day? Well, what are you doing here, and how is this your home?" he questioned, confusion evident in his voice.
Before I could respond, Vivian's voice came from behind me, cutting through the tension. "She is my wife, Vedant." I turned around to see Vivian standing right behind me, so close that I could hardly breathe.
His proximity made me both nervous and scared. This was the first person who had ever evoked so many emotions in me at once, and I was struggling with each of them. I could feel his intense gaze on me.
"She's your wife? When did you get married, and why didn't you tell me?" Vedant asked Vivian, Standing behind me, his surprise turning into a slight accusatory tone.
"It's none of your business, Vedant," Vivian replied sharply.
Was he still looking at me?
Then, without another word, he walked away, allowing me to finally take a deep breath.
"But bhai, you didn't get married that day, right? Mahira went missing, and this girl, she's not Mahira," Vedant persisted, walking past me towards Vivian.
