Mingi is in a daze when he realises what's happening. He's at the foot of the stairs, yes that's where he was headed, but his ears are ringing, and pain, his ankle is in excruciating pain. His arms are sore and his legs are numb. He doesn't remember feeling any of this 10 seconds ago.

"Come on, get up tall fry. It was just a light shove."

Mingi freezes. It's that voice, that bone chilling voice. He hears other voices, like laughter, but it's muffled by the ringing in his ears.

Someone tries to pull him up by his arm, but as soon as his foot shifts, he screams out in pain.

"Nevermind. You can sit there and listen to me. The noise you and you're friends were making back there was GREAT! Only because Yunho was there to outshine them all. The lyrics are so emo, you know. You should talk to someone about that HAHAHA!"

Help me...someone save me.

"Oh are you crying? Come on, you're not that weak are you?"

Weak weak weak. Weak is my middle name.

"KIM SOONHEE! We meet again." Seonghwa appears from the top of the stairs. Behind him, his two buddies are standing with their arms folded.

The bullies immediately start to panic, turning to their 'boss', Soonhee, for instructions on whether to flee or not. He decides to challenge seonghwa this time. "Leave us alone, bad boy. I get when you wanna save your nasty little twink. But who is this tall fry to you huh?"

Seonghwa begins descending, one step at a time, getting closer and closer to Soonhee. "My boyfriend has a name, you bitch. And so does he. Save your ugly words for your face, and get lost before I send you home in an ambulance." Seonghwa warns, and when the bullies don't budge, his friends swiftly grab them by the collar and drag them to the principal's office.

Mingi will never understand why bullies are so scared of seonghwa. He's feeling dizzy, cold, and tired. He wants to crawl into a hole and die.

"Yunho! He's here, I need some help!" Seonghwa calls out, and within seconds, mingi feels a familiar presence by his side. "I'm going to report this incident to the principal. That CCTV camera would've captured it all. Get mingi to the sick bay, will you?"

"Go, and if you can, kill the guys that did this to him," Yunho says, his voice tight and hoarse. Seonghwa leaves, and Yunho is next to mingi. He wipes a tear that's streaming down mingi's face. "Don't be scared, it's just me. Let's get out of here."

Yunho gently scoops mingi into his arms. He's princess carrying him, but mingi just feels like an ugly duckling.
By now, the only pain he is feeling is in his heart.

They arrive at the sick bay, and the nurse gets straight to work, accessing mingi's foot and the bruises on his body. Thankfully, he didn't fracture any bones. She bandages his ankle and uses an ice pack to reduce the swelling and pain. Then she cleans the dirt around mingi's bruises. Yunho crouches by the bedside, holding onto mingi's hand tightly the entire time. He's frowning, but has a soft gaze in his eyes whenever he looks at mingi. When done, the nurse offers her seat to Yunho, before closing the curtains around them.

Mingi can't find the words to speak. The bedding, the atmosphere, the smell of medicine, gives him an awful sense of deja vu that makes him want to puke. He can't though, not in front of Yunho, who's still icing his foot.

"I'm so sorry, mingi-ya...I don't understand why anyone would do this to you," Yunho's voice breaks. "If I ever see that dickhead again, I will break his neck so that he'll never be able to lift it for the rest of his life."

And mingi starts crying, a little louder this time. He lifts his arm to cover his face but grimaces at the shooting pain.

"Shh it's okay," Yunho soothes, using a tissue to help dry the tears. He can tell that mingi needs a hug, so he gently drapes one hand around mingi's waist and leans half his body on the side of the bed. They stay like that until the nurse comes in, placing a cup of watermelon juice on the table. "Mingi, your friends are outside. Do you-"

Mingi aggressively shakes his head, enduring the throbbing feeling he's experiencing.

"No worries, take your time darling." She says.

Yunho takes the cup from the table and hands it to mingi, but he refuses.

"It's watermelon juice, your favourite."

Mingi shakes his head again and slumps back into the pillow. "Home, please," is all he can get out.

Yunho alerts the nurse so she can bring him a wheelchair. They help him off the bed before wheeling him towards the door, before they leave she bends down to say something to mingi: "see a doctor if it still hurts by the end of the week, okay? Or you can come here and I'll take a look for you."

As they leave the sick bay, mingi's mother is waiting outside. Next to her is Jongho and the principal.

"Oh my baby," she cries, rushing to hug her son.

The principal says a few words to mingi before heading into the sick bay to talk to the nurse, he requests for Yunho and jongho to follow him as well. Now mingi is alone with his distressed mother.

Everything that happens after is a blur to mingi. He doesn't remember how he went home, but he wakes up in the comfort of his bed, his mother is on the bean bag typing aggressively on her laptop. "Eomma?"

"Mingi? Oh goodness you're awake. How are you feeling?" She asks.

"Better, can I have some watermelon juice?"

"Of course you can baby, I'll go make some for you," she gives him a kiss and exits the room, leaving the door halfway open. Mingi retrieves his phone from the table and finds a hundred over messages from his brother, hongjoong, wooyoung, jongho, sera and seonghwa. He also has a few missed calls from them. But nothing from Yunho. He contemplates on whether he should text him. Suddenly, he notices a pair of crutches leaning against his desk. That definitely wasn't his.

When mingi's mom returns with the juice, he asks her about it. "The crutches were from your friend, Yunho. He said his mom once had to use them, but eventually she had to change to a wheelchair permanently. She offered to lend you the crutches."

That meant Yunho was here.
"Eomma, where's Yunho?"

"He left a while ago, they needed him back in school. But he left you a note." She takes the note that Yunho left on the desk and passes it to mingi.

He unfolds the semi-crumpled paper to find a short poem. And for some reason, Yunho's handwriting looks very familiar. He takes a sip of the watermelon juice before reading silently:

Adults use the word Youth
to say that sadness is happiness,
to enjoy the moment.
But why is it so tough for me?
On a night when even the moon cries
please find it,
somewhere in my heart,
a place I can rest.

"Eomma, can you grab the paper flower sitting on my shelf?" Mingi points at the yellow rose across the room, the one that mysteriously appeared on his desk on valentine's day.

Once he has both notes side by side, his heart catches in his throat.

"What's wrong?" She asks.

Mingi doesn't reply, he just stares at the handwriting. It's exactly the same; the way the y's and g's curl at the end, the way words are tilted slightly to the side. It was written by the same person.

I saw this and thought of you :)

"It's nothing. Thank you for the juice."
