"The society has formed various beliefs. Some factual. Some senseless. There are some with hints of truth in it while some are based on lies passed down through generations. Mate bonds are one such thing.
Not everything we know about it is true but those facts are so common to hear that they eventually become a firm belief. As a youngster I used to think the same way too. I was no different from the rest of the world but mate bonds had always been a fascination of mine. That is why I decided to write my thesis on this very phenomenon." Chul took a deep breath in, peering at the two faces sitting before him.
"As you are aware that our ancestors were true werewolves. They could transform into their wolves and visa versa with just one command to their own brains. Another important aspect of their lives used to be fated mates. A soulmate born especially for them. Mate bonds were reserved only for their fated mates and was considered sacred amongst those creatures.
Their connection to each other ran very deep. So deep that it's unlikely to even fathom the intensity of their feelings and linkage. They could feel each emotion of their mates through that bond, something similar to amplifying a weak signal.
Also, a very important aspect of these wolves was the capability of deciphering these signals. They could differentiate the type of emotion the bond would relay to their body. That is how they protected their mates from harm. Mind links were also a similar power they used to hold but things changed with development.
Technology did give us a lot but it also took from us the gifts bestowed by the nature. With each advancement in science the need for these small but massive powers declined. Mind links were replaced with smart phones and mate bonds with casual flings.
And today we live in a world where relationships from the heart are rare to find. People hold lust, advantage and pleasure as a necessity in their bonds. Pure love is no longer a thing. This being the very reason why we all are so clueless about our mate bonds........"
Jimin gulped. The intensity with which the old man was looking at them was making him nervous. He wanted to breakdown and cry his heart out. It felt as if every word from the elder was a barb at them for things they were so oblivious about.
But he had to be strong.
He had to make sure that this chapter was closed with certainty this time, whatever may the truth and consequences be.
His eyes glided towards Jungkook who appeared to be in a similar dilemma. "It's going to be alright." He slowly whispered for the younger and then focused back on the professor.
"...........As researchers me and my team have conducted various field studies to decipher this sacred link. It took a lot of years and patience to come to a few conclusions that I wish to share with you. But firstly you need to know that these might not be completely true. Although the facts that I'll tell you about have been asked from people around us. People who have actually experienced all of these things."
The air in the room got even thicker. The weight of that nerve chilling anticipation hanging them in the middle of nowhere.
"Every situation that we face regarding our mates can give us different feelings." Chul continued whilst leaning slightly forward to gather more attention. "Each pain represents a different scenario but we have never tried to know about them as a society. A pain through the mate bond has been labelled into two criteria without proper consideration.
But there is so much more to it than we think. Like take the first scenario. A person loses his or her mate. They are bound to experience a pain but here's the catch. That agony would be felt near the chest region. The heart to be specific. As for rejection this pain would travel to the entire body.
Then comes one of the most awful experience in a relationship that is being cheated on. The feeling is felt directly on the mating mark and it is like getting burnt. As if someone is trying to remove that mark with a hot iron rod but if the pain comes in the form of a cramp or muscles constricting together then it's most likely that your mate is in some sort of danger."
And then there was complete silence.
A heavy hush.
It seemed as if the listeners had forgotten how to breathe. Their eyes held tears while their brain tried to process each and every thing just revealed to them. A sudden pain slowly taking over their forms.
"Are you sure professor? Can we really trust your assumptions?" Jungkook hesitantly asked. His form shaking with the torment of the past despite of not remembering most of it.
"I'm sure. Ninety nine percent. There are always some other possibilities too but that's not for you guys." Chul proclaimed with utter confidence. "Earlier when you didn't know about the meaning of that mate mark pain all of you thought of that scene as infidelity and that is completely reasonable.
But now we know the most accurate meaning of that pain. Another thing that might be added to it is the fact that your mates do not remember anything about that night. All of this can't be a mere coincidence, can it? Don't you feel that something might be wrong in this situation? Something that the four of you missed out on completely."
"I....I think so. Thank you so much professor for giving us your time but we'd like to take our leave now. I need to be somewhere." Jimin suddenly sprang up from his position and bowed to the elder before hastily turning away and advancing towards the exit. He did not bother to see if Jungkook was behind him or not.
He had lost his senses and ability to think.
In utter desperation he dialled a certain someone's number and the moment he heard that voice he spoke out without any hesitation.
"Meet me in the studio. Right now."
_______________
So we are about to have some drama in the next chapter. I hope you all are excited.
Also guys this entire pain thing is just something I thought of. I don't know if there is anything similar in the actual werewolf concept but who cares.
