Author's POV:
After dropping her bag in her office and putting on her doctor gown, Caitlin rushed to the ER immediately. Just when she was about to enter the room, a soft voice called her name from behind.
"Cait..."
She turned around and saw a beautiful young woman walking towards her. She looked at her before her gaze shifted to the woman, who was following closely behind her. For a moment, she felt her heart skipped a beat when her eyes locked at the intense and dangerous gaze.
Seven years. The woman that was legally known as her wife has been with her for seven years. But every time when she look at her, she still feel like a total stranger. Except for having Isabelle to bond them together, she couldn't find anything to convince herself that they are actually a married couple.
"Cait... please save Daniel. Nagkaseizure na naman siya, It didn't happen anymore after the surgery two years ago. Natatakot ako. May mangyayaring masama ba sakanya?" Jhoanna held Cait's hand and asked worriedly.
Caitlin pressed her lips tightly together as she gave Jhoanna's hand a comforting squeeze. "Don't worry. Gagawin ko lahat ng makakaya ko. I have to go inside and check Daniel. Our cardiologist is already inside checking his condition." She then turned to the woman, who was quietly standing beside Jhoanna.
"Calm her down and wait here. I need to go inside." She said.
Without saying anything to reply her, Bea just gave her a soft nod before reaching out to pull Jhoanna away from Caitlin and wrapped her tightly in her arms. "Let her go inside to check. Trust me, Daniel will be fine. I won't let anything happen to him."
Caitlin looked at them, couldn't help but feeling a little jealous for the gentleness and warmth that she never saw on Bea's face before. It will only appeared whenever she is with Jhoanna and Daniel.
Not letting herself to drown in the sadness for too long, she quickly turned around and rushed towards the ER, and missed the sight of Bea looking at her with a gaze that clouded with unexplainable emotions.
--------
"Kamusta yung bata?" Caitlin pulled the curtain and walked into the room. Her eyes immediately fixed at the six year old boy and felt a pang hit her chest.
Daniel is one year older than Isabelle but because he has a congenital heart disease since he was born, his body is smaller and skinnier compared to Isabelle. His condition was very bad, but after the surgery he had in the US two years ago, fortunately he got better. Everything has been very stable and he didn't have seizure anymore in these two years.
"There is a sign of endocarditis." Doc Dean Wong replied as she looked up at Caitlin. "Besides seizure, he is also having a fever, cough and shortness of breath."
Caitlin bit her lower lip and looked at Daniel. His eyes were closed tightly together and his face was ghostly pale. Although he is unconscious, she could clearly see the tiny creases formed in between his brows, as if he is suffering from an extreme pain.
"Anong gagawin natin? Endocarditis could be treated by antibiotic injections, right?" Cait asked.
Doc Dean Wong nodded. "I've gave him a jab and he is stable now. Luckily the condition is not very severe. I will give an empiric therapy that includes vancomycin plus an aminoglycoside. We will see how it goes. For the meantime, he will need to stay here in the hospital for further monitoring."
"Okay." Caitlin leaned herself forward, gently touches Daniel's forehead and brushed his hair away.
"We should go out para masabihan natin yung parents niya about his condition while the nurses send him to the ward." Doc Dean Wong said again.
