One month later...

"Boss!"

Bea put down her phone after finished talking with a client and a displeased expression clearly visible on her face when she saw the door burst opened. She leaned back against her chair and crossed her arms over her chest. "Thang, I know I just started work not too long ago but do I have to remind you that you have to knock the door before you barge into your boss room?"

"I-I'm sorry, Boss" Thang apologized in a quavered voice. "Y-You were engaged on the phone just now and... your Dad just called and said... Ms.Caitlin is in the hospital now. Her water broke and... and went into labor."

"What?" The cold expression on Bea's face vanished and replaced by a worried one. "When did he call?"

"About thirty minutes ago. Your Dad wants you to rush to the hospital now." Thang replied.

"Get the drive to wait for me at the main entrance." Bea instructed as she stood up and took her coat from the wooden stand. But just before she could walk to the door, her phone rang and the name that blinked on the screen froze her feet.

"Jhoanna?" She answered the phone.

"Bea..."

Bea's brows creased when she heard Jhoanna crying. "What's wrong?"

"Bea.. where are you? I-I'm very scared."

"Doc, how's my daughter in-law?" Dette rushed to the lady doctor who just came out from the operating room with Elmer followed closely behind his wife.

"The baby is too big for Mrs. De Leon to have a natural birth. The contractions are definitely getting stronger and painful. I would suggest not to wait anymore and will let her deliver by C-section." The doctor told them.

"Whatever you think it's the best for her... just do it. I just want the two of them to be fine." Dette said worriedly.

"We will try our best." The doctor said as she glanced around, as if looking for someone. "Where is the husband? I'll need the husband to sign the letter of consent."

"Ahh..." Dette turned to look at her husband and saw him shaking his head. Thang told them that Bea already know about this and has left the office three hours ago. It's not possible that she still hasn't arrived the hospital until now. They tried to call her mobile a lot of times but she didn't pick up. Thang also told them that before she leaves the office, she got a call from someone with the name Jhoanna.

Elmer heaved a deep sigh as he looked at the doctor. "She... She is on her way from... overseas." He lied. "We are her parents in-law. Can we sign the letter of consent for her?."

There was a pause before the doctor nodded. "Yes. The nurse will bring the letter to you later. I'll go back in and prepare for the surgery."

"Thank you, Doc" Dette nodded her head politely.

"It's my job." The doctor smiled as she gave the older woman a soft squeeze on her arm. "Don't worry. Everything will be fine." She said again before turning around and disappeared into the operating room.

Gently turning the doorknob and pushed the door open, Bea entered the hospital room and walked to the bed very softly. She stood beside the bed and gazed at the pale yet beautiful face of the woman who has just delivered a baby daughter for her. She was sleeping soundly, the dark circles surrounding her eyes was an evidence of her tiredness.

A deep and breathy sigh uncontrollably escaped her lips as a pang of guilt hitting her. Today was a terrible day for her. Her wife was in the labor but at the same time... her best friend was admitted into another hospital. And the worst part was when Jhoanna told her that Nico was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer final stage.
