Authors POV'Are you dumb?' Maisie pushes Caleb off, not realizing how long they must have been kissing for. The beach was almost more than empty. 'Get up.' She grits, looking around for Millie.
'Where's Millie?' she huffs, hoping she'd spot her quick.
'I don't know.' Caleb shrugs, getting slightly worried. 'Come on.' he grabs her hand and helps her look in the right spots, Maisie thankful she wasn't alone in this.
'Her Mam's going to kill me.' Maisie says, still not accepting the fact that Cheryl too was her Mam.
They spend the next 30 minutes scouting the place, but no luck.
'What do we do?' she redials Millie's number. 'Her batteries fcking dead!' groaning, ready to cry any second.
'Oi. Relax. she'll come around I'm sure.' he forces her to take a seat and wait.
and wait.
It was nearly half an hour later when Millie turns up... along with Ava.
Maisie stands, 'Where have you been? we've been waiting around for hours?' she grits. 'And who is this?' she nods her head at Ava, still piercing her eyes at Millie.
'Ava. We just met. We sat on the other side of the beach. phones dead.' Millie responds, holding her phone up. 'And I just realized it so I'm sure Mam's having a field day.' She smirks. 'Sorry.'
Maisie's anger simmers down, finding this more comical now more than anything.
'Whatever.' She giggles. 'Hi Ava.' she finally addresses the teen, 'You drive?'
Caleb cuts in, 'Did you ask me if I drive?'
'Do you?'
'Yes.' He chuckles, 'you're interesting.'
Ava cuts in, 'To answer your question...'
'Maisie.'
'I do drive.'
They share a smile, now laughing. there wasn't anything remotely funny, but the energy was right.
Millie unsure why, but slightly grew a sense of jealousy towards Ava. suddenly not wanting to share her new friend.. she brushes it off.
'Do you know where your house is?' Caleb asks, all climbing into his black Range Rover.
'Nice car.' Maisie comments, trying to figure out how a burger boy is pushing the newest Range Rover out of the lot.
'Thanks.' He responds, firing up the engine.
Millie directs Caleb as they make their way back home.
'Do you have a phone charger?' Ava asks, to which Caleb hands her the chord. 'Where's your phone?' she asks Millie, plugging the dead iPhone.
They share a smile, it's dark but the light coming off the dash was just enough.
Maisie and Caleb chatted away with each other - as did Millie and Ava.
Ava's honey eyes seemed to glow in the dark, Millie had thought.
she's so pretty
'I do come down to London every so often.' Ava tells Millie, returning her to reality. 'Maybe next time I'm there I'll come for a visit.'
'that would be nice.' Millie responds, unsure if she even wanted Ava to know who her family was. she wanted a friend that wanted to be her friend not because her Mam was Cheryl Cole.
