Millie enjoyed car rides with her Mam. Topics were endless and laughter always seemed to fill the compact space, even if Cheryl was a terrible driver, the teen never minded it.'Have anything in mind you'd like to get?' Cheryl asks, keeping her eyes on the road.
Millie sets her phone down, leaving Ava on read.
'Not too fussed'
'You enjoying the weekend?'
'Yeah. You know I always like coming up here.'
They share a smile.
'What'd yous get up to last night? I didn't hear you come in.'
Millie hesitates, thinking quick. 'We watched the fireworks. The usual. Nothing too crazy.' She pauses. 'We actually made some friends.'
Cheryl stops at the red light, looking over at her daughter. 'Yeah? Who are these new friends?' She asks, raising an eyebrow.
'Ava and Caleb.' Millie smiles once more, 'really nice actually. Caleb drove us home-'
'How're you getting into a strangers car without telling us? He could have kidnapped you ya'no-'
'Mam relax.' Millie sighs.
'Relax?' Cheryl tuts, continuing her drive. 'Looks like Maisie is rubbing off on ya.' She didn't like it. Millie never spoke to her Mam that way and she sure as hell never told her to relax before this moment.
Millie remains quiet. Thinking of a million ways to get out of this sudden mood she's put her Mam in.
'Sorry Mam, didn't mean to be rude.' She apologizes, 'but really. They're nice. . . They actually want to do something this evening-'
'No.'
Millie grunts, 'hows about if you meet them and like them you can decide then-'
'I'm not about spending another night with your Mum, Millie-'
'She's not me Mum.' The teen groans.
Cheryl sighs. Deciding it would be best to shut up before this conversation got out of hand. She drives the remainder of the trip to the shop, parking and both quietly climbing out of the blacked out G-Wagon.
They do their shopping, Millie evidently in a mood but Cheryl brushes it off and decided to finish her shopping.
—
'You just gonna stay sulking then?' Cheryl asks Millie, both loading the suv with all the shopping they'd done.
'I'm not sulking' Millie responds, sulking.
'Fine.' Cheryl huffs. Putting the last bag and climbing into the car, leaving Millie to close the boot and return the cart, all while keeping an eye on the teen as she does.
'Fine what?' Millie asks, the second she too climbs in. Suppressing her smile.
'Fine as in if I meet them and approve then you can-' Cheryl is cut off with Millie leaping over from the passenger side and hugging her Mam, followed by a million kisses.
'Thank you, thank you, thank you.'
'Oi!' Cheryl jokingly pushes her daughter off. 'I said IF I like them. Don't get your hopes up too high now.' She smirks at the teen, turning the engine on and driving out of the lot.
Millie smiling from ear to ear the entire drive back home, chatting away in excitement.
—
'I told Maisie no already.' Kimberley hisses at the Geordie as they prep lunch together.
