blueberry muffins (todoroki x reader)

ch 9

i'm just kidding. you did not die

but Todoroki thought you did. as he watched the tree fall towards you, he quickly lifted his head from his palm and gripped the railing. 

he frantically looked around the area you were just standing and he began to panic. 

suddenly, Todoroki heard laughing from behind him. he lowered his head in relief while you walked up next to him. 

"wow! that was close!" you say in between laughs. your laugh comes to a halt as you look down and see that the railing had some ice on it from where Todoroki was gripping. you looked a little to the left of the ice and saw that the railing was slightly melted. 

Todoroki followed your eyes and also looked at what he had done to the railing. 

"awww were you worried" you tease with your bottom lip pouted. 

"i wasn't worried. i just thought i had witnessed you die." Todoroki tried to smoothly get himself out of this situation. he was worried, but so would anyone in his situation. right?

"why didn't you go to UA?" Todoroki questioned, somewhat out of the blue. 

this took you by surprise. it was always your dream to be a hero. your mother had the same dream at your age and attended UA. that was before she met your father. after your father and her began dating, he became more and more controlling over her life, eventually leading to her pursuing a non-heroic job as an office worker after graduating since he wouldn't support her dreams. 

"i really wanted to go, so badly, but it was too expensive." you responded while looking at the ground. it upset you to think about the opportunities that you're missing out on.

"but it's free" Todoroki responded. he sounded confused, and it didn't help that you also were extremely confused.

"what?!" you were almost screaming. "what do you mean it's free?!"

"i mean... it's free. you just have to pass the entrance exam to get in. of course, there are field trips and activities that you have to pay for. but it's not that much since taxes pay for a lot of the activities we do" Todoroki explained. every word made your blood boil even harder.

"are you fucking kidding me? all i had to do was take the stupid entrance exam??" you were now pacing back and forth on the small platform you and Todoroki stood on. 

"you could probably join. especially with your quirk, they would be stupid not to let you in. you have a lot of potential" Todoroki was speaking matter-of-factly, but what he was saying made you angry. you were angry at your dead beat dad who didn't give a shit about you or your future. 

"god... i can't believe this." you were in disbelief, and Todoroki could tell that his words were not helping your situation.

"listen, maybe I can talk to my teacher and see if there's a way for you to join, even though it's a little late." todoroki said.

you looked up at him with tears prickling your eyes, then immediately looked back down at the ground. 

"okay" you whispered, too shocked to even be able to form whole words.

"thank you" you said looking up at Todoroki. he nodded in response and you both looked ahead at the tree cut in half.

"we should go before someone calls the cops that teens are destroying the park" Todoroki suggested.

"yeah, good idea" you responded as you watched him walk towards the ladder.

"what are you doing? why would you take the boring way when there's a slide right here?" you say while pointing at the slide. it was a medium sized plastic yellow slide that twirled as it got closer to the ground.

"meetcha down there" you shouted behind you as you lunged forward and pushed your self down the slide.

Todoroki could hear a faint "weeeee" as you descended down the slide. he scoffed and shook his head before doing the same. 

you were standing at the bottom of the slide, watching to see if he would actually go down. 

"that was ridiculous" were the first words Todoroki said when he reached the bottom of the slide. 

"oh cmon! what's the fun in using the ladder?" you said while walking up to Todoroki, who was still sitting on the slide. 

you stuck both your hands out to pull Todoroki off the slide. he placed his hands on top of yours and you began to pull. 

however, Todoroki wasn't budging. he continued to sit on the slide while you were now basically sitting on the ground trying to lift him up. he abruptly stood up, but you were unbalanced, so you fell to the ground. 

you were laughing and saw Todoroki's hand outstretched to now help YOU up. lots of handholding going on 😏

once you were standing, you brushed off your clothes and continued laughing. Todoroki was also lightly laughing as well while looking at you.

you both stared into each other's eyes before your laughs faded away. 

"i had fun today" you stated.

"so did i." todoroki responded, not breaking the eye contact.

"we should go back. if i get home after dark my dad will be pissed." you rolled your eyes and Todoroki nodded. 

the both of you walked back to your house. the sun was about to set and she sky was colored with purple and pink on one side, and navy blue on the other.

"can i have your number?" Todoroki questioned, breaking the silence while you two walked back to your house.

"y-yeah of course" the question caught you off guard.

as you answered, you looked up to your house, then back at Todoroki. Todoroki grabbed his phone from his pocket and handed it to you. he watched you type in your number and then repeat it back to yourself, making sure there were no mistakes. 

you handed the phone back to Todoroki. 

"have fun at your internship. and text me whenever you want to talk. or complain" you smiled up at Todoroki who was lightly smiling while looking at you.

"i will. i'll try to visit the cafe, but i might be too busy."

"that's okay. you go be an amazing hero!" you pumped your fist in the air. "i'll see you in a week"

"goodnight, y/n" 

"goodnight" you walked towards your front door. you grabbed your keys and stuck them in the keyhole, then turned around and gave a final wave to Todoroki.

he waved back. you shut the door behind you and Todoroki waited until he heard the door lock before turning around and walking home. 

i'll try to visit y/n at the cafe... for the muffins, of course. no other reason.

definitely no other reason.
