~ 4:42 pm ~you had finally finished washing all the dishes and cleaning up for the opener tomorrow (you), so you made your way to the front of the cafe. there, you saw a very sweet boy sitting at one of the tables with his back to you. he was finishing his muffin, which was now being eaten off a napkin so you could wash the plate.
"wow, i'm shocked you're still here." you said, standing with your arms crossed.
Todoroki turned around with his mouth full and gave you a thumbs up. you laughed and shook your head.
"okay, i'm going to grab my stuff and then i'll be right out."
Todoroki nodded his head and then turned back around to finish the muffin. he doesn't know why, but the muffins at this cafe are the best he has ever had, which is why he plans to continue coming here. for the muffins... no one- i mean, nothing else.
you walked out of the back room with your bag and keys.
"ready?" you asked Todoroki, who nodded and walked to the trash can to throw away his napkins.
you let Todoroki leave first so that you could turn the lights off, lock the door, and set the alarm. Todoroki walked outside and then looked both ways, like a guard dog making sure no one was coming. once he was content that there was no one near, he turned around to watch what you were doing. you shut the door and put the key inside to lock it. one thing you didn't realize was that your sleeves were rolled up from washing the dishes, so Todoroki got a look at some of the scratches littered across your arm.
you locked the door, then turned the doorknob to make sure that it wouldn't open. you nodded your head, then turned around to face Todoroki, who was standing less than a foot away from you. he stared at your arms, then to your face.
his mouth was slightly open and his eyes were filled with sorrow.
you looked down at your arms and realized what he was looking at. you quickly pulled down your sleeves and tried to think of a way to get yourself out of this.
"this isn't what it looks like! i swear" you rush to speak out while waving your arms around.
the sun was beginning to set, so the streets were filled with golden rays. of course, the sun was setting on the side where your dad hit you, so it was easier to see the bruise through the worn-down makeup.
"what happened?" was all Todoroki asked. he pointed up to his own cheek as he stared at your discolored cheek. Todoroki doesn't show emotion, but in this instance, his eyebrows were furrowed and his eyes were widened.
"i fell. let's go" you began walking away from Todoroki. you got a few steps away before Todoroki caught up to your stride.
"how did you fall? that's a pretty bizarre place to get a bruise from falling" Todoroki stated. he looked at you out of the corner of his eye before looking ahead again.
"i don't want to talk about it. i'm tired." you stated. you weren't lying. you were exhausted. every time you smiled, your cheek would throb. your head hurt since you most likely had a mild concussion, and your cuts would catch on the fabric of your shirt, causing little jolts of pain.
"okay" was all Todoroki said in response. he knew that he did not want to push something out of a stranger. you two barely met, and you have no obligation to tell him anything about your personal life.
unlike the first time you and Todoroki walked together, this silence was uncomfortable. you were hiding something, and Todoroki could tell, but neither of you initiated the conversation.
the sun was beginning to set and beautiful colors blended together to create a painting in the sky. you arrived at your house and, to no surprise, you saw your father drinking through the window.
god, why doesn't he shut the fucking curtains?
oh right, because i do everything.
you took a deep breath in and hesitated to take a step towards your house.
it didn't take a genius to connect the dots, and Todoroki had. he watched your breathing begin to become uneven. even though he doesn't know you, he felt like he knew your situation enough to offer some sort of comfort.
"hey" he whispered as he gently touched your shoulder. you lightly flinched from the contact and he quickly withdrew his hand.
"sorry... have you eaten dinner? let's get food." Todoroki suggested.
you contemplated. if you got home late, there's no telling what your dad would do.
then again, if you went home now, he would still find something to use against you.
"no... i can't." you breathed out while looking down at the ground. "i can't" you whispered again, while shaking your head.
"y/n it's okay if you can't. i understand." Todoroki leaned down a little as he spoke.
"i understand" he repeated. annunciating each syllable a little harsher than the first time. since telling Midoriya about his issues with his father, Todoroki found it easier to open up about it to someone else who can relate. if this were a few weeks ago, Todoroki would not have been so open to relate to this stranger's situation.
you looked up to his heterochromatic eyes. they were staring intensely into your (E/C) eyes.
"i have to go. thank you, Todoroki" you said. you reached up and touched his shoulder. you gave him a soft smile and he nodded his head in response.
you turned around and walked toward your house. before unlocking the door, you turned around and waved bye to Todoroki who gave a small wave back.
then, you shooed him away so your father wouldn't see him. you were trying not to laugh while doing so, and he was not helping by lightly scoffing then walking away with a small smile on his face.
you entered the house and your father was too invested in the game on TV that he barely noticed you until you walked in front of the TV to get to your room. even then, he only acknowledged your existence by leaning his body so that he could see the area of the TV you were blocking.
~ ~
after getting ready for bed, the last thoughts that crossed your mind before you fell asleep were about Todoroki.
"i understand"
did he really understand? i mean, he clearly has some issues since he had a hard time at the Sports Festival using one of his quirks.
I should get to know him more.
