you continue working for the rest of the day. you did not fully realize, but it felt like there was something missing. you constantly had this gut feeling that you were forgetting something.

by the end of your shift, you were pretty exhausted. you were on your fifth day in a row of working, and you worked again tomorrow.

as you finished doing the closing tasks, you heard a soft knock on the door. you were closing alone, and slightly began to panic as you remember the last time you had unexpected company when you were alone.

however, your eyes settle on red and white hair, so you instantly relax. you hold up your finger to show that you'll be over in a second then walk to the backroom to grab the keys.

you walk back out and unlock the door to let Todoroki in, immediately shutting the door behind him and locking it.

"hey what are you doing here?" you look Todoroki up and down. he was wearing his hero costume and... it looked good.

"i figured i would visit since my dad is out drinking with some other pro heroes." Todoroki responded while walking towards a chair and sitting down.

"i'm almost done... what's this?" you get distracted by a few cuts on Todoroki's face. they're obviously healing, but it still shocked you. you kind of forgot that being a hero meant putting yourself directly in harms way.

your hands moved towards his face and you gently held his jaw while examining the cuts. you were standing in between his legs and his head was tilted up, looking into your eyes.

"was this from the time you almost died?" you said while laughing.

Todoroki looked away from your face. "yeah. it was pretty intense"

"yeah, i bet" you responded, still holding his face. "don't get anymore of these, your face is too pretty for cuts"

this statement caused Todoroki to look away and bring his left hand up to his scar over his left eye.

"i am already repulsive with this scar. it's disgusting." Todoroki said with a frown.

you grab his face to look up at you again and take your right hand to cup the left side of his face, gently tracing the bottom section of the scar.

"you are very handsome."

you feel his hands gently grab your waist, and you lean down slightly.

"scars don't define who you are. they show the growth and healing from past struggles." you look towards your own scars on your arms from when your father threw you into the glass shards a few weeks ago. most of the scars faded with time after they healed, but some deeper ones left small marks across your arms.

you give Todoroki a small, but genuine smile.

"i'll be right back. i have a few more things to do" you say while taking a step back from Todoroki. he dropped his hands from your waist and let them fall into his lap.

he thought about what you had just said. he always viewed himself as unlovable for the scar that covered his face, and that it would be the only thing people looked at.

but you, you were not people. you look at him for who he is.

a few minutes pass and you walk out with the keys and your belongings. you turn off the lights and lock the door behind you and Todoroki before beginning your walk home.

you and Todoroki had some small talk while you walked home. you complained about some crappy customers, and Todoroki told you about some of the hero things he has been doing over the past few days.

"let's go to the park again. i don't feel like going home yet" you say while trying to sound upbeat.

but Todoroki could see that there was some sadness in your eyes, no matter how hard you try to hide it.

you stop abruptly and turn to Todoroki.

"of course, only if you want to! if you don't want to that's fine. i won't be upset, i promise" you frantically blurt out while waving your arms back and forth.

"i don't mind. i like spending time with you" Todoroki reassured you.

that did make you blush, but luckily it was nighttime, so there was no way he could have seen it.

as you near the park, a sudden wave of sadness takes over your body. you always dread this time of the year, and even your newfound friend could not lift up your spirits.

your 16th birthday was less than a month ago, meaning, that the five year anniversary of your mother's death is tomorrow.

you and Todoroki climb up the ladder onto the platform where you teleported to the first time you showed Todoroki your quirks.

you sit down and lean your back against the railing. Todoroki followed your lead and sat across from you.
