~Norman's POV~

It was nighttime, and Conny was saying her goodbyes to everyone. She promised she would write to us as often as she could. The other kids that got adopted promised the same thing, but they never do.

I was talking to Ray a little bit after Conny left the House with Mom to meet her foster parents. I kept on shifting from one foot to the other. I always got a little nervous around Ray. My heart rate always picked up a little bit, and I can never keep eye contact.

I heard Emma's voice coming from the dining hall. Ray and I walked into the room to see what she was yelling about.

"Conny left Little Bunny!?" Emma exclaimed as she picked him up from the table. "He's her favorite toy!"

"You still have time to deliver it to her." Ray gestured to one of the  windows. "I saw the lantern Mom was holding not to long ago. There's a chance that Conny hasn't left yet."

I nodded, turning to look at Emma. "Come on, Emma. Let's go down to the gate so we can give Little Bunny to Conny."

Emma and I walked to the back door. I ended up having to pick the lock because it wouldn't open without a key. We walked to the gate, but no one was around when we got there. The only thing past the gate is a truck. I went to the front of it and peeked through the front window, and Emma went over to the back. She looked through the compartment in the back that was hidden behind curtains.

"N-Norman..." Emma stepped backward and away from the truck.

"Hm? Did you find Conny?" I walked over to where she was standing and looked into the back of the truck. There was Conny, all right. She was lying on her back with a flower going into her chest, right above the heart.

I felt myself pale. I felt like I was gonna throw up.

What the hell?

Voices and footsteps began to approach where we stood, and Emma grabbed me by the arm, pulling me under the truck. Two things stood in front of the truck. They weren't human. But someone who was a human stood a little bit away from them.

"We expect a higher grade to be shipped out next time, Isabella."

"Understood." Mom spoke. I couldn't hear any emotion in her voice.

"Did you hear something? It sounded like it came from under the truck..."

Emma grabbed my arm again. We crawled out from underneath the truck and ran. We were about halfway back to the House before Emma stumbled and fell. I skidded to a stop, panting.

"T-That couldn't have been Conny, right? It must've been someone else!" Emma's voice was extremely shaky.

I looked over at Emma. At first, I couldn't speak. Then, I found words again. "I'm afraid that was Conny."

Emma began to tear up, and then she let out wail, loud enough to be heard from inside the House.

Once Emma regained herself, we walked back to the House.

Ray greeted us at the doorway. "Welcome back. How'd it go?"

Emma stayed silent and walked past us.

I glanced over at Ray before shifting my gaze to my feet. "Um...we didn't make it."

I noticed that Ray had began to frown. I turned to leave, but he grabbed my hand before I could.

"Are you alright?"

I smiled as happily as I could. "Can we talk about it tomorrow? I'm pretty tired right now."

Ray nodded, giving my hand a gentle squeeze. "Yeah. I get it." He release my hand. "Sleep well, I guess."

"You too, Ray."

I walked away, placing my hands on my face. I was starting to feel really warm, and my hands were really cold.

I heard a stifled sob come from the dormitory that Emma slept in. I walked in and saw her on the floor by her bed. I sat down next to her.

Emma was crying quietly. "I-I can't leave them."

"I know, Emma. And we won't."
