⚠️TW: Mentions of blood, death
—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
~Emma's POV~
"Okay. You two can ask me anything you want."
"Anything we want?" I echoed. "So you can tell us how the adults feel about killing kids?"
Norman made a noise that sounded a lot like a sigh, and I shot him a look. Sister Krone, on the other hand, laughed.
"Yep."
"Then show me the tracker."
We just have to lie. We can't give her any evidence that could go against us.
Krone reached into her pocket and pulled out the device that was disguised as a watch. She handed it to Norman, who then opened it. I peeked over his shoulder to get a better look.
"It's this simple?"
"I know, right? It shows the exact and current location of a child, but it can't identify who it is." Sister Krone crossed her arms.
"So you have already figured out that the tracking devices exist?"Norman nodded. "But we don't know where they are or how to nullify them."
"And you can't escape because of that."
"Do you know where they are? Or how to break them?"
"The device that shows your location is in your left ear. I don't know how to break them, but I do know that once they are broken, headquarters gets notified. So does the tracker."
She's not lying about them being in our ears...and Ray did say that the adults might get notified...
"You would have to cut it out."
"With what? There are no sharp knives in the House. Plus, we won't have any medicine when we get outside. It wouldn't be good if we started our escape with infections or blood loss."
"There's a surgical knife and antibiotics in the infirmary. They're all there just in case. It would probably be enough for the five of you. I could give you the key so you can get what you need. I could also teach you how to use the tools correctly." She paused, thinking. "Is there anything else you'd like to know?"
"How old are you? And how long have you been at Grace Field House?"
"It's rude to ask a lady her age, you know? But I'm twenty-six. And I've been at Grace Field my whole life. So was Isabella. She's thirty-one, by the way."
"Have you ever seen the outside?"
"I haven't. But there are humans outside. The food you get is made by the people in headquarters, but there are people outside who make your clothes. They make other supplies, too."
"Supplies?"
"Like, book and toys?" Norman tilted his head to the side. Something he did when he was confused.
"Right. They make other things, too."
"Do you know where Grace Field is located?"
"No."
"What about the security past the wall?"
"There isn't a lot of it. I'm sure nobody patrols the perimeter."
