~Ray's POV~
"Nat! Where the hell are you?! This isn't funny!"
After Nat disappeared, we split up to look for him. I went with Don and Gilda, and Norman went with Anna, Thoma, and Lanni. We looked for him for about an hour before we went back to the tree we ate at. Norman's group was supposed to meet us there. But they didn't.
"Are all five of them missing? Were they caught? Did something else get them?" Gilda's worrying seemed endless.
"Let's go in the direction everyone else went in. Maybe we can find them."
"Don, that is probably one of the smartest things I've heard you say ever."
"Don't be mean, Ray!" Gilda punched my arm lightly.
I lead the way, and Gilda and Don trailed behind me. The ground was covered in roots, and we stumbled a lot.
Please be okay for me, Norman.
I stopped walking to look around. Gilda was shivering, and Don awkwardly patted her on the back.
"Ray, these roots are really weird. I sink slightly when I step."
"Really? I didn't notice anything." Don proceeded to jump, and the roots caved in below us.
I crossed my arms, feeling the ground disappear from underneath me. "Nice going, Don."
And then we fell.
~Norman's POV~
My group fell through the ground a few minutes into searching for Nat. But we found him, curled into a ball on the floor. He shot up when he saw us.
"Oh, thank god! I thought I'd never see another human again! I thought I was gonna die down here." Nat wrapped his arms around me. He was suffocating me.
"Don't be dramatic, Nat. And let go of Norman. You'll choke him." Anna sighed and began to rummage through her backpack. She pulled out a lantern and lit the candle inside.
Nat released me, and I loosened the scarf around my neck. "We should start to look for a way out. It's unbelievably warm down here."
Anna handed the lantern to me. "Okay, but I don't want to lead. It's really creepy in here."
I smiled reassuringly at her, and we all started walking. Not even five minutes later, I hear three thuds that came from in front of us. Nat and Anna grabbed my arms, and Thoma and Lanni grabbed my legs.
"Ow! My ass!"
"You should have been more careful!"
"It's your fault that we got stuck down here anyway, Don."
The four of them released my limbs, and Thoma yelled out to them. "Ray! Don! Gilda!"
"Thoma!" Gilda yelled back. "Is everyone else with you?"
"Yeah."
I held up the lantern and saw the three of them in front of us. Gilda was running toward us, Don was on the ground, and Ray was standing next to him, poking him with his foot. I put the lantern down and hugged Ray from behind.
"Hey, love. You scared the shit out of me, you know?" Ray reached up to ruffle my hair.
"I kind of guessed that, but I'm here now." I nuzzled his back with my face.
