⚠️TW: Mentions of killing
—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
~Ray's POV~
"We should try to win over Don and Gilda soon."
Norman and I were washing the dishes after dinner. I nodded, and then gestured over to Sister Krone with a fork I was washing.
"But what are we gonna do about this problem?"
"We'll think of a way."
"I'm pretty sure the two of us are the only ones that can handle this situation. Emotionally, I mean."
"Well, normal people wouldn't be able to handle something like this." Norman smiled at nothing in particular.
Norman spoke as he and Ray entered the pantry. "It isn't impossible to kill them, but we can't do that for other reasons."
"They have tracking devices on us, their food. So it wouldn't surprise me if the demons put a device on the caretakers in order to check up on things."
"I agree."
We walked to the library together so that I put some books he borrowed back on the shelves.
"Mom is really scary. Showing us the tracker was no mistake. She sent us the message that we won't be able to escape. She showed us that we can't break the tracking devices. And she let us know we can't kill the caretakers." Norman leaned against a bookshelf. I felt his eyes on me as I placed the books on the shelf.
"Mom knew that we would hesitate. It's how she raised us. If we didn't have brains to notice, us kids wouldn't be worthy of all this caution."
Would we even be able to attack Mom from behind?
"We will escape. We have to. Or else we'll die."
I glanced back at Norman and saw that Norman was smiling at me.
I sighed. "Norman, do you really think we can take everyone?"
Norman dropped his smile. "No, I don't. But I promised Emma that we would. But what if the younger kids just end up dying because we take them...?"
I walked over to Norman and placed a gentle hand on his shoulder. "We'll figure it out."
Norman smiled at me. "Thanks, Ray. You always know how to make me feel better."
I felt my face heat up. I quickly removed my hand from Norman's shoulder and turned around. "Whatever. You should go up to the dormitory. I'll be right there." I grabbed another book from the table and began to search for its place on the shelf.
"Good night, Ray." Norman lightly squeezed my arm as he passed.
"Good night, Norman."
(Time skip to the next day at free time cuz I have to constantly recheck the manga to see what the hell is next)
"But we know more about Mom's intentions, thanks to these past ten days." Norman whispered to Emma, since there were other kids nearby.
"What do you mean?"
"Basically, Mom should have been able to identify the targets already. She should know that me and you went to the gate that night, and that we told Ray about it after."
"Identify? Not have an estimated guess or suspicion?"
"I'm positive she was able to identify."
"Why do you think that?"
"There are multiple reasons, but the biggest hint is how she uses Sister Krone. If she hadn't already identified the targets and still wanted to, wouldn't she suspect the five oldest kids? But Mom has Sister Krone guard in general from the very beginning. I've been watching if it's changed, but it's been the same for the past ten days. Mom has no intentions of specifying the targets, and she's letting us do as we please."
"Yeah, but then what was the point of observing how I responded the first time?"
"Right. That is confusing." Norman nodded.
"But how did she figure out it was us? There's no way to tell which two of us went to the gate on the tracker. And even if she identified us, she's letting us do as we wish."
"But what if there's already someone else watching us nearby?" I appeared next to Emma. I had been listening to their conversation. "That's what Norman is trying to say. She doesn't even have to make Sister Krone watch us."
"But that would mean..." Emma looked like she was growing upset. Norman gently touched her arm, which caused me to feel an intense amount of jealously. But I pushed it down, like always.
"There's probably a traitor among us kids."
