[ikr so unexpected :D i just kinda had to take a break]Akira felt the wind whisper through his pale blond hair, running invisible fingertips through his head and down his arms. His body trembled slightly, like it was being rocked in the soft breeze, swaying to the feel. Outside it was quiet, to where he had fled to get away from the people inside Eden. Hopefully the teachers wouldn't notice
They would though, eventually or immediately.
They probably wouldn't find him up here though, atop the roof of Eden's highest tower that spiraled into the clouds (or so it seemed to Akira's small self).
He hoped Anya was okay, she most likely was. She already had herself that useless friend... Becky was it?
He knelt down on the rooftop and stared over the edge, at the sparkling green turf and the small rivulets of water that ran from here and there.
It was hard to imagine how chaotic it was in there.
"Oi, oi, oi." A sharp, rough voice suddenly oozed from behind him. "Watcha doin' up here, young man?"
Akira's stomach tightened as he turned, face set in stone. "I was just overwhelmed... sir."
The stranger clicked his tongue in disapproval. "Well I'll need you."
He had dark black hair that was swept to the side and wore a royal blue jacket with patches sown in. His eyes were hidden by sunglasses and his mouth was curved into an upwards grin, toothy yet cold.
"I don't even know who you are," Akira snapped back impatiently. "You definitely don't work here. No way a teacher can climb up this place... I think."
"Nor a child," the stranger mused, his voice oily. "You're Akira, eh? Ketsueki... recognize it?"
The word sent Akira stumbling back a few steps and he nearly fell off the roof before grasping himself. "The hell are you!?" He demanded, his tone much too furious for a kid.
"Who," the stranger replied smoothly, his mouth turning up even more so it looked more like a sneer than a smile. "And you should know me, Akira. I worked with you for so, so long."
Akira's lip wobbled slightly despite himself, "Never."
The stranger cackled, tearing off his sunglasses and revealing his face... that Akira still did not recognize.
His face hardened and he scowled, "I don't know you."
"Ah," the man licked his lips and tilted his head back, scrunching up his face. "But I do, Akira. I've watched you grow for so long! Since day one when your parents brought you to my office." He smirked, his face lighting up with delight and hunger. He licked his lips again and reached for his pocket where he pulled out a cigarette and lit it up before pressing it to his dry mouth.
"I don't know you," Akira repeated, hating how desperate he sounded.
"You do," the man oozed. "My friends call me Kai, you can to! You know me now, Akira..." he licked his lips, removing the cigarette from his mouth and watching the pale silver smoke lift into the air, spiraling into the pale blue of the sky.
Akira stiffened.
"I'm not your friend," he said at length. Of course he had left his pocketknife at home today... because of restrictions from Eden or whatever. Next time he wasn't going to give a shit about those rules.
Kai took a slow step forward and Akira blinked, "What are you-"
A hand reached up and slammed him onto the rooftop, a strangled yelp breaking free from his mouth as his head banged hard against the metal. Stars spun in his vision and pain shot through his head, making him gasp in shock.
"What-?" He forced out through gritted teeth.
Kai leaned down to stare him in the eyes, his face flickering with amusement. "You're my toy, Akira. Why did you leave, huh? To be with your stupid family?"
Akira felt heat rise in his face, "They aren't... stupid."
"No?" Kai snickered. "They don't even care, Akira. Don't you know?"
Akira didn't answer. Afterall, he didn't know. There was a chance that they didn't, there was a chance that they did. He hoped they cared. He thought they cared but he, of all people, knew how people could hide their real intentions.
"Don't you know?" Kai repeated, his eyes cold and mocking. "I know you do."
Akira shoved at him but Kai held him down firmly, a smile tugging at his cracked lips. "Go on and try."
"Let me go," Akira hissed.
"Oh, I can't do that," Kai said, raising his other hand and running his fingers down Akira's face.
Akira scowled and bit down hard on his fingertip, glaring defiantly at him. "Try me," Akira snapped.
Kai recoiled, shaking his wrist but his eyes twinkled. "You're perfect," he murmured, his mouth twitching.
"Let go," Akira tried again to break free but Kai's grip only became stronger, pressing him harder against the rooftop.
"I don't think I will," Kai stood and Akira could see his mouth was spread wide into a grin that sent shivers down his spine. "You're mine now, Akira."
He was tied up, ropes binding around his legs and arms and he was shoved to the ground, his face bruised and swollen. A sharp foot dug into his ribs but he was too tired to make a sound. Pain spiraled through his chest and limbs, and he coughed, struggling to breathe.
"I trust you to take care of him," Kai's voice rang loud and clear. "If you lose him you know your punishment."
"Yessir," came two voices.
"Good," Kai leaned down to poke Akira's face before disappearing into the halls, calling over his shoulder. "Don't let him rest!"
He was back, the cold metal walls, the echoing silence, the unforgiving eyes that looked his way. His eyes were closed because he couldn't look and he didn't want to.
The foot dug deeper into his chest and he flinched hard, biting down on his tongue to keep from making a sound.
There was a loud snicker. "Hurt already? I thought you were tough."
Akira didn't answer.
"He's scared," the second voice mocked. "Ketsueki doesn't need weak soldiers like him."
Fine by me, Akira thought, I don't wanna be here anyways.
"He needs to learn," the first voice agreed, fake pity seeping into his voice. "Let's teach him."
There was a scraping of metal, like someone lifting a metal stool, and then something hard clanged against Akira's head. Pain and horror shot through him like a bullet and he gasped, crumpling to the floor. He felt something wet and hot hit the ground, either blood or his tears, before everything went dark and the pale light faded into blackness.
