"Uhn uhn you know I don't be looking like that!"

"Bae, you know that's how you be shimmying those shoulders!"

Propping my phone up, I copy how Jabari looks, moving my shoulders while on FaceTime call with him.

"Ooooo you too smooth with it! You might as well be a Poodle by the way you moving them shoulders!"

"Oh noooo, Angela would kill me if I would try something other than Delta."

"So you saying you want to be a Delta?"

"Jabari, I-I don't know!"

He laughs at my uncertainty and asks, "Aye, why this my first time hearing from you since we left school? I've been trying to talk with you but it's like you been ignoring me."

It's been two weeks since the incident but I still haven't told Jabari about what happened. I'm a bit scared of his reaction, mostly thinking he would blame me...

"I'm sorry it's just...I had a lot going on."

"You want to talk about it?"

"Um...n-no, not really..."

"Okay, I don't want to pressure you. I'm here whenever you're ready to tell me though."

"Thank you..."

"Mmm, you free today around 6?"

"Yea, what's up?"

"Alright so me and the fam having a dinner today at our house. I was wondering if you wanted to come and meet them."

I try not to cringe on camera at the thought of meeting Jabari's family. By the way he talks about how they hold him up to a high standard, I'm a bit worried. I'm especially nervous about meeting his mom because I think he's a momma's boy...

"Oh, um...okay."

"What, you nervous?"

"Duh!"

"Bae they're going to like you, I promise they will."

In the background of our FaceTime I hear a door open and someone say, "Son, can you help me with the laundry please? Mama is worn out after coming back from the gym. I would ask your father but he's too busy trying to teach Cameron how to play golf."

"Yea, I got you."

"Thank you baby."

"Alright bae, Ima come pick you up around 5, that's alright with you?"

"Yes."

"Okay, see you then."

Hanging up the phone, I sigh, thinking the worst about this dinner later. They're going to think I'm not good enough for their son, I know they are...

Angela comes in the living room with her purse and car keys in hand. "Hey lovebug, you still on the phone?"

"No."
