"And are you sure this is the same woman from Retta's picture Ti?"
"I'm positive. She's well known in Atlanta for being a big time attorney."
My eyes stay glued at the laptop screen as we all observed more recent pictures of my biological mother. Each picture Ti clicked through made my chest tighten even more.
There was no denying this wasn't the same woman from the picture I received, she just looked...different. This doesn't match what I had thought she looked like now...
She looks so put together and polished from the older picture I have of her.
"What is she like? Is she still married? Does...does she have kids?"
"I don't know top much about her personally, I only hear about her work life. She is still married but I don't know if she has kids or not." Pointing to a more recent picture of both Keri and Greg, she says, "Her husband is the CEO of GMR. It's a big railroad company in the south...."
The next picture Ti clicks to shows her standing in front of the Titan location they have in Georgia.
"Wait, Rettá isn't that where you work?"
"Yes...what does the link say?"
Clicking the link, a LinkedIn post from last year appears with people congratulating her on joining the legal team of Titan.
I'm so confused...
"Maybe...maybe it's just a coincidence she works there," Ti says trying to make the situation better.
Vicky notices my blank expression as she turns to me softly asking, "Rettá, are you okay?"
I swallow the hard lump in my throat as I reply, "I...I don't know, this is really just a lot to take in..."
"On her website, she has her personal number and email if you want to reach out..."
"No. No, we can't do that..."
"Why not? This may finally be the chance you can get some answers Ret-"
"I said I can't!"
The room becomes quiet, leaving tension in the air. I could feel Ti and Vicky looking at me worriedly after I yelled at them.
