" I can't believe that that damn assistant state's attorney Winston Arnett gave Skip Sands probation ! ," DuBuis grumbled as he threw down today's Washington Post on the kitchen table and proceeded to swallow his newly prescribed antidepressant and antipsychotic medication along with a long gulp of black coffee. God. He hated taking medicine. But not as much as he hated having seen his husband's devastated face when he had heard from Detective Nita Browne about that ridiculous plea agreement. Spencer had in that moment seemed to retreat inside himself. He wouldn't talk about the case. To anyone. Even DuBuis. Even his and DuBuis's therapist Reverend Lynn. The only thing he had said about it was " that it had been a mistake even talking to the police". DuBuis knew one thing though. That damn man Sands better stay the fuck away from Spencer.

Andrew and Glory exchanged glances with each other and then looked over at Spencer who was oddly quiet as he made a half hearted attempt at eating his oatmeal. They had decided to stay at the house instead of returning to Pennsylvania to pack up their own house. They had arranged with Glory's daughter by her first late husband Dodie to do the packing on her end and then have it sent on in a moving van bound for Maryland. It should arrive on Sunday and then they would officially move into their own rental house a few blocks away. That choice was made because Andrew wanted to be near when his other son received the DNA test about their granddaughter Rebecca.

Luci and Theodore were also at the table, eating cereal, ignoring the adults and quietly discussing the origins of Friday the 13th.

Andrew said rougher than usual," Arnett is an idiot. " Then he thought to himself that that damn fool better not be his granddaughter's father. His eyes blinked back a sudden rush of tears. He had just found his grandchild. He loved that little girl with everything in him. He was not losing her. And even though Richard was now married to Nigel and had two more children Andrew knew how much his son would hurt if those tests didn't have the right results. His eyes went to Spencer's face and he remembered when he had opened his own secret DNA test results done by his sister in law Samantha. Thank God those results had been the right ones. It would have killed him to lose his son.

DuBuis leaned back in his chair and looked pensive. " Today is the day, isn't it? ," he asked as he reached for a piece of buttered toast and took a crisp sounding bite of it. " For Richard, I mean. "

Glory said," Yes. I've been praying. That little girl has to be his. She has the Norland eyes for God's sake. "

Spencer finally spoke in an almost vacant way. " I don't have the Norland eyes. I have blue eyes. "
