" The Weeping Angels are kinda creepy," Luci said as she and Alan sat next to each other on the sofa in his living room . They were watching Doctor Who on his family's flat screen TV. He was really cute, she noticed out of the corner of her eye. Sol was cute too but in a different way. He was so big and broad bodied like a snuggly teddy bear with shaggy red curly hair and twinkling always mischievous green eyes. He thought he was too fat but to Luci he was just right. But lately Sol was starting to back away from her. He was acting.... She didn't know..... Really funny. But then again he was not as confident as Alan was. Of course the other boy had reason to be cocky. At fourteen he had a lot going for him. He was tall and lean with a swimmer's body and almost surfer boy good looks. Alan Kirkland looked more like a California boy with his casually long wavy ash blond hair and sensitive brown eyes than even Theodore who had grown up in California. Yet he wasn't really as arrogant as he could have been. He wasn't Zora Mayfield arrogant.
She cut her eyes over at him. She was getting confused. She did really like Sol but she was starting to like Alan too. He was so cute and sweet and funny. And nice especially how he had helped her with Theodore that night of the party. He didn't act like he had money even though his house showed that his family had a lot of money. Of course Sol was just as sweet and nice.
" They can be , " Alan said with a shrug of his shoulders as he scooted a little more close to her. So close he could smell the cologne he was wearing. Sol didn't wear cologne. " But I still like them. But I like horror movies so. The scarier the better. "
" I like horror too , " she said. " But most are so cheesy. I mean who goes running through the woods in big ole high heels screaming until they trip over their own feet ? They make girls look dumb. "
Alan looked at her and her mouth turned dry like she suddenly needed water. She blinked her eyes at him. " That's true. I think that sucks. All girls aren't dumb. " He licked his lips a little nervously. " I mean. You're not dumb. "
Luci asked with a little bit of hesitation in her voice , " You see me as a girl ? "
Alan leaned closer to her. " Yeah. Why not ? I mean you look like a girl to me. " He hesitated. For just a second he looked kinda scared. " You ever kissed anyone , Luci ? "
Luci's mind suddenly flashed back to that day at the mall food court where she had kissed Sol. Not on his forehead or cheek. On his mouth. It had actually felt good. Nice and warm and comfortingly sweet. Just like Sol himself. " Kinda yeah. "
Alan whispered almost shyly , " You want to kiss me ? "
Luci blinked her eyes twice at her. She was quiet for a long while as she thought about what he had just asked and what her answer would be. Then she said softly , " Yes. "
He smiled faintly at her and leaned even more closer to her. Their lips met in a soft and almost serene kiss that was barely a flutter across their mouths. His eyes closed. And so did hers. It was very nice.
But so was Sol's. Actually , she mused sadly , Sol's was better.
