I saw you today.

Somehow, you looked empty.

It's like you thought no time had passed

And I could just as easily be swayed in your favor.

I guess, that was somewhat true.

You had your boyish charm and that smirk on the side of your mouth,

Flirtatious nature in your voice,

And the ability to never let me get a word in.

You kept memories of our time together, to keep me alive.

I discarded every trace of your existence, hoping to forget.

You gave me the same compliments, told the same jokes, and even said I looked the same.

Blackmail is your language as you become more fluent with every desperate plea.

As idiotic as it is to say, I pitied you.

My lowest point was when our paths were intertwined,

A valley of disappointment.

The height of your life was when I forced you to climb to greater limits,

A mountain of success.

You lack family, friends, and faith,

The same place I left you.

You begged for help and forgiveness with tears welling in your eyes,

And hope for reconciliation.

My sleeping poet,

You wandered too far into the pages of Psyche weeping.

You regretted that you rejected my fight.

I regretted that I tried in the first place.

I loved you like no other and you know it,

But you couldn't measure up.

I gave you the tools to build your life.

You claim you still love me and maybe that's true.

I choose to forgive you,

Never to be with you.
