It was a normal day at the BPD.
Keyword: was.
A couple of arrests but mostly just filling out paperwork.
A lot of cups of coffee.
And then, a short break.
Of course, during that break one of their start Rookies (Their only one.) decided to make some toast in the break room.
Which typically is fine, except that by some miraculous idiocy set the break room on fire.
As it is supposed to, the fire alarm went off.
So, not only was the break room set on fire, but the sprinkler system went off and drenched all the paperwork the other officers were attempting to do.
And soak them too.
"Ah crap! We gatta get out!" Dick rushed from the break room.
"Rookie, what the hell did you do?" Amy yelled, getting from her seat and going out the door with the rest of the officers.
"I...I was making toast." Dick said once they were safely outside.
"How the hell do you set toast on fire?!" Ylang yelled.
"I don't know! It just caught on fire!" Dick said, looking like he was about to cry.
The sirens of a firetruck stopped as it came to a halt outside the BPD.
Several guys got off it and immediately got to work.
One in particular came up to Chief Addad.
"Chief Addad, I'm Chief Garrett. What happened? I didn't think we'd have to be called out to rescue you guys." Chief Garrett smirked and shook Chief Addad's hand.
"It seems our Rookie set the kitchen on fire." Chief Addad shook his head.
"Rookie!" Addad motioned him to come over.
"Yes, Sir?" Dick asked.
"Explained what happened to Chief Garrett." Addad said.
"I was making toast. And it caught on fire." Dick said.
Garrett blinked at him.
"You caught toast on fire?" Garrett processed.
"Yes." Richard nodded.
"And you're an officer?" Garrett asked.
"Yes." Richard nodded again, feeling embarrassed.
"Right. How long did you put it on for?" Garrett asked.
"The crispiness? 7." Dick said.
"The crispiness?" Garrett blinked, "The numbers is how many minutes you want it in. Not how crispy it will be."
Dick paled a bit more, "I thought it was crispiness."
"No. No, it's not." Garrett shook his head.
Just then the firefighters came out, one of the holding a toaster.
"We found the source. The toaster caught fire." The firefighter held out the toaster.
You could see the dial set way high.
"He really did put it to 7." Garrett was bewildered, "You're an officer?"
"I'm not a chef." Dick nodded.
"The numbers on a toaster are the minutes. Please think about that before you use one again." Chief Garrett said.
"He most certainly will, Chief Garrett. Thank you again for the help." Chief Addad nodded.
The BPD watched as the firefighters packed up and left.
"You're banned from the kitchen." Chief Addad said to Grayson.
"Yeah, I saw that coming." Shalt nodded.
Everyone agreed it was for the best.
