(How Dickie came to have and play one.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Richard Grayson found himself walking the streets of Bludhaven with a cup carrier filled with his officers' coffee inside.
Dick gasped as he saw a window display of a Musik store.
He accidentally dropped all of the coffee cups as he saw it.
It laid on a beautiful display.
The wood of the instrument was not smooth like other instruments.
This wood was slightly jagged and rough.
Around both bases of the instrument was tied a marvelous display of yarn.
The yarn intertwined from base-to-base to create a carrying strap.
All Richard knew was that he has to have it.
Also, he had to clean up the coffee on the sidewalk, if the other civilians had anything to say about it with their glares.
Once Dick cleaned up the coffee, he went into the Musik store.
"Hallo!" The cashier happily greeted him.
"Hallo! How are you?" Richard asked.
"Uh...Good." The cashier translated.
"Es ist gut um spiele im Deutsche?" Dick asked. (Is it good if speak in German?)
The cashier's eyes lit up, "Ja!" (Yes!)
"Vas ist das Instrument im Fenster?" Richard asked, pointing to the one he wanted. (What is the instrument in window?)
"Es ist die Rainstick." the cashier said. (It is the Rainstick.)
"Rainstick?" Dick asked.
"Es tönen gleich Ragen." the cashier nodded. (It sound like Rain.)
"Wie viel?" Richard asked. (How much?)
"Dieser ein ist Tweizehnundfümf." The cashier said. (This one is 25.)
"Ich woll haben zu kaufen es." Dick said. (I would like to purchase it.)
The cashier nodded, took it off the display, and rung it up on the register.
"Jester generell ist Tweisehnundsechs und Seibensehnundfünf." The cashier told him. (The total is $26.75.)
Richard paid and then picked up his Rainstick.
The sound was amazing!
He carefully swung it around his shoulder so that it would rest on his back.
It was time to get coffee...again.
Because if he showed back up at the Police Station without their coffee and only a rainstick, he would be their next homicide case.
"Rookie! What took you so long?" Shalt yelled when he got back into the station.
"Why are you covered in coffee?" Addad asked.
"It's all explained by...this!" Dick pulled out the Rainstick with a thick accent.
"What is that?" Amy asked.
"A Rainstick!" Richard smiled widely.
Everyone stared at him.
"Grayson...you spilled coffee over a stick?" Addad asked.
"Well, clearly, no one here has gone shopping with me." Dick said.
He turned the stick over so that it sounded like a light pouring rain.
"It sounds like rain." Richard said, eyes watching the stick, captivated by it.
"Why, Grayson? Why?" Ylang asked.
"It sounds like rain... It's also the only instrument I can play." Dick said.
"HOW did you become a cop?" Lolli asked.
"I went to college and the Academy. Did you know that all I have to do is take and pass the Detective test to become a Detective?" Richard asked, eyes still on the stick.
"NO!" Malkore and Lolli, both Detectives themselves, yelled.
"I like playing with the Rainstick though!" Richard completely ignored them, dumping the stick to create a heavy rain sound.
Addad pinched the bridge of his nose.
"Great. We'll know who to call if we ever want to start a band." Ylang said, rolling her eyes.
Richard gasped.
"Let's start a band!" Dick exclaimed.
"NO!" Everyone yelled.
It was a terrible idea.
