"Mr. Hale is in the worst mood ever." Gloriana huffed out as soon as she entered the lunch room for staff. She straightened her black long pencil skirt with her hands before sitting down with me on the table, her work bag slamming on the table.
My eyebrows shot up at her sudden appearance before sending her a soft smile when I processed what she had said. "Glory, Come on, let's be real with ourselves. When is he not?"
Silas was an intimidating guy. He never shared appreciative words and the main emotions he showed were anger and annoyance. I was very lucky I could handle it because if I was the past me, I knew for a fact that I would have cried for days. I used to really depend on the words everyone said. They meant a lot to me but after a few encounters, I found out they were useless (most of the time at least) — people could say a lot and still mean nothing. The funny thing with Silas is that despite the lack of communication, he was still concise and clear with what he wanted to say. He might be harsh, as if he has a stick up his ass but I respected him.
In a career type of way. He was extremely hard-working and it affected me in a good way. I went a little over the top when it came to work though – I was one hundred percent a workaholic.
My little sisters told me to not push it but I will be fine, right?
She threw her arms in the air, an exasperated look sketched on her face. "Like I have a clue- wait a minute. He's pretty bearable when you're there."
Pure lies.
I lifted my shoulders. "That is mainly because I annoy the hell out of him and ignore his bad attitude. Easy peasy-"
At that moment, my phone buzzed, cutting me off. It was a single buzz but it was enough to know who texted me. Not even a few seconds passed before he called me, the name Silent Mope appearing on my phone screen. He was never patient enough to wait for me to reply, so he immediately called instead.
I quickly sent Gloriana an apologetic look before swiping right and answering. Standing up and leaving the room, I waited for him to say something.
"Vivienne." His warm voice with dark deep tones that normally sent shivers up my spine said my name. A lot of people called me Vivi but in his eyes, I was Vivienne and nothing else.
People would start with a greeting but Silas started with my first name. Always.
"Silas." I kept my voice light.
I knew why he was calling me. I had not fired the cleaners and he found out. The usual.
I guess this was not professional in a lot of cases but we were not the typical case. This was Silas for God's sake and everyone knows that he was at times unreasonable but they were too scared to say. It was true, he kept people in line this way but there had to be at least some people that talked some sense into him. Not even some actually because not a lot of people earned his trust enough to even speak up to him like that. Luckily I did. I do not know if I should be proud or not about that but nonetheless, here I was, not fired.
