A paperbag dropped on the table in front of me with a soft thud

A paperbag dropped on the table in front of me with a soft thud. Next to it was a cup of chocolate milk. My typing of an e-mail coming to a halt, I looked up to see Silas already returning to his seat.

Once he was seated, he nodded towards the bag. "Eat."

It was only now that I realised I had not eaten since leaving my apartment in the morning at nine am. It has been 6 hours since then.

I wasn't neglecting hunger. However, I was too busy to acknowledge it.

How Silas always knew to give me food was beyond me.

Before I could tell him thank you, the meeting room flooded in with the executive team and Cara behind them. It was her first time taking part in one. We would be discussing Ranahn upcoming resort.

I sent Silas a few pictures of the place prior to the meeting and he was not pleased nor impressed.

Improvement was necessary before the holiday spot opened.

Opening the paper bag while everyone got comfortable and took out their laptops, I grabbed the marble cake, small pack of Haribo sweets and salad.

I was not sure if I should be embarrassed that Silas knew of my sweet tooth.

After deciding to eat the food after the meeting, I felt eyes burning the left side of my cheek. My gaze flickered to the side and caught Silas staring at me. Confused, I stared at him back, blinking.

He then glanced at the food before returning to me again. His facial expression couldn't have been drier despite sending me a knowing look.

Slowly reaching for my drink, I took a sip and sheepishly smiled. Happy now?

His eyes stayed aimed at me, his lips pursed together.

I silently kissed my teeth and bit from the cake. Like the brat I was, I exaggerated my chewing.

He rolled his eyes at me, his attention finally falling away. "Let us begin."

Still nibbling at my cake, I swiped across my touchpad to display Ranahn's resort.

It was a beautiful location– a clear ocean and mountains in the far distance. Situated perfectly for privacy, there were multiple individual villas with their own courtyard, a central open space of lush pine trees, vibrant flowers and a shallow water feature flowing through the middle. Outside the estates were more facilities catered to self care, food and enjoyment.

This was the clearest disconnect.

"So... what we thinking?" Julian began lightly.

"Prett–." Someone replied.

"Not the obvious." Silas broke through his answer, getting straight to the point.

And, the tension was back.
