Silas was watching me again. Purposefully obvious.
I felt it before I even looked up. The weight of his gaze, heavy and sharp, pressing against my skin. I kept my focus on my laptop, wishing him to look away. He didn't. Of course not.
He was always so unrelenting.
"You are awfully quiet today, Vivienne." I heard Silas' smooth voice speak up across from me, cutting through the silence. My head whipped up at him at the correct observation but he was no longer looking at me.
I forced a small smile. "Do you miss me talking your ear off or something?" I asked him jokingly.
He didn't answer immediately. But when he did, it was flat. "Never that."
I should've left it there and faked working on something, but he caught my stare and stayed, his gaze lingering. My fingers tightened around my pen.
"Are you going to tell me what's wrong, or do I have to guess?" He crossed his arms. It was as if he was studying me, dissecting every tiny movement, expecting a slip up. "Nothing is wrong." I shrugged.
His brow twitched. Just a bit. "The guessing game then? Fine." His eyes slightly squinted at me. "You didn't sleep last night," he stated. Stated. It was unnerving how this was his guess but he sounded extremely sure. He was obviously right too.
I did not sleep a wink last night. After that evening and Silas' comment, I spiraled. Instead of taking my ass to bed, I was endlessly scrolling on the internet, reading the reactions to the show.
I even stumbled across a very interesting post of Silas and I. It was a screenshot of us in the background with me laughing my head back, no home training in sight. The caption was, boss x assistant relationship pending. Luckily the post wasn't trending otherwise my jaw would have dropped even more at people agreeing.
Silas calling me beautiful the other night did not help with the delusional thoughts that were almost always at bay these past five years. If I consciously reacted? I feared there were bigger problems to face.
I took a headstart in reeling in my personality, my solution to this awaiting bomb.
Sadly to the owner of the post, absolutely nothing was pending. A small little comment did not mean a relationship. That was the truth.
"Vivienne." Silas called out my name, pulling me out of my train of thought. My eyes slightly widened as I realised I was quiet the whole time.
"Sorry," I quickly apologised. "I didn't sleep last night, you are right."
His eyes rolled before bringing his attention back to his laptop. "I know I am right. I want to know why." Sassy.
"I just couldn't." I lied. His eyebrow slightly raised at me as if calling me on my bullshit. I ignored him and checked my phone that buzzed in my hand. It was Julian.
