"Excuse me?!" My sister, Juliette, shrieked through the phone. "You are on a cruise right now? Right now when I am doing my shitty homework?"
I shuffled a bit through my covers to get more comfortable, a grin slipping onto my face as I imagined her eyes nearly leaving their sockets.
"Well, it is for work but–"
"I would like to be doing my homework on a cruise." She mumbled but I could hear her loud and clear through my speaker.
I laughed out in response. "Maybe I can convince Silas–" My mouth shut tight at my boss' name. That was off the table. I couldn't give her false hope. Nothing.
Our partnership with this cruise would be no more as of today. Staff gossip told me as much.
Silas was probably in and out of calls as we speak but that was just me assuming, considering how I hadn't actually seen him today. Or yesterday. Or even the day before.
I barely left my room myself.
I had read Daniel's folder perhaps a thousand times till I never forgot the contents.
The pay was amazing but honestly comparable to mine. The title, chief administrative officer, was clearly higher. However it was detached from the CEO and centered on admin tasks for the whole organisation, rather than for the CEO. If anything, it felt like I was probably more important in this job working directly with Silas than in the one offered.
"Maybe you can?" Juliette repeated my words, bringing me back to the present.
"I got offered another job at a different company." I blurted out.
I was suffering when thinking about this alone. The weight of the decision was killing me.
"Oh my God! I am so happy for you, Vivi!" She congratulated me.
I felt my stomach turn at her happiness for me. It was good news. It really was.
"Thanks." My reply sounded lackluster. She caught on immediately.
"Uhh... why do you sound like a cat died?" Her voice dropped into a hushed softer tone. "Vivi, are you okay?"
I grimaced even though she couldn't see me. "Absolutely ecstatic."
"Yep, definitely something wrong." I heard moving in the background and figured she sat down somewhere. "You better start talking."
I took a deep breath. "So I got offered a job at Beaumont International. Yes, the CEO I am lowkey getting shipped with online– but he's married so ignore all that– actually ignore everything on the internet." The moment I started talking was the moment my mouth didn't stop running. All my thoughts blurted out in a sort word vomit.
