She did it once again. This week's workload was enough to make an employee cry rivers but for some reason the smile she was sending my way radiated the sun, as if the constant appointments, emails and calls were nothing. Vivienne Onaïs had them done before the deadline, easily keeping up with my work tempo.
I have had her for over five years as my executive assistant and she blew all the people before her out of the water. I had multiple people working under me but she's the only one that felt like my equal. I had finally met my workaholic match but she irked me like never before. She was stubborn. And annoying at times. Like now.
Standing before me after she told me she had finished everything, it was like she was waiting patiently. That was until you glanced down at her pink heels that were sporadically tapping the floor at a fast pace. I frowned at the colour clearly not abhorring the dress code but didn't bother scolding her. Again. This was a thousand times better than that suit. That damned suit.
Before I let my thoughts carry me too far away, I met her feline eyes that often turned into doe when I looked down at her. It seemed she was starting to show her impatience when her eyebrow raised. Just as I was about to call her name, she opened her mouth.
"Are you constipated?"
"No."
Leave.
Her eyebrows raised even more. "Are you one hundred percent sure? Because you look like you're genuinely about to explode."
Out of annoyance.
I let out a silent breath and pulled the sleeve of my blazer back to check the silver watch on my wrist. It was eight in the night and she was still here.
"Why are you here, Vivienne?" I grumbled. "Work ended at five. It has been three hours since."
She nodded her head, the tilt in the corners of her lips still present. "I can do the maths just fine, thank you boss." I watched as she got comfortable and sat in the chair diagonal of me and crossed her legs. My lips pressed into a straight line. She was definitely not leaving any time soon. Fuck.
"And the answer to your question is that I also still have work to do like schedule the daily emails to send and arrange your calendar. I cannot be caught slacking when you are working this late. Plus I get paid well for my hard work so it's not like I am doing it for nothing."
Why did that answer weirdly comfort me?
"I also really enjoy your company." She added.
Nevermind.
What a joke.
I rolled my eyes. To enjoy my company was far from the truth, I knew that much.
She winced. "To think you think I am lying hurts me very badly."
