ATLANTA, GA 📍

THE NEXT MORNING |

The morning sun streamed through the windows, casting a warm glow over Dess's living room. She sat at the kitchen table, a steaming cup of coffee in front of her, but she barely touched it. Her mind was still reeling from the flashback of the previous night. The vivid memories of Deshawn's threats left her feeling unsettled and vulnerable.

Determined to regain control, Dess picked up her phone and called Jayda. She needed to talk to her friend, to share what she had experienced and find a way to move forward.

"Hey, Dess," Jayda's voice came through the phone, cheerful but tinged with concern. "What's up? You sound tense."
"Can you come over?" Dess asked, her voice wavering slightly. "I need to talk to you about something. It's important."
"Of course," Jayda replied without hesitation. "I'll be there in a few minutes."

True to her word, Jayda arrived shortly after, her expression filled with worry as she took in Dess's anxious demeanor. "What happened? You look like you've seen a ghost."

Dess took a deep breath, steadying herself before she began. "I had a nightmare last night. More like a flashback, really. It was about Deshawn."

Jayda's eyes widened in shock. "Deshawn? Your ex? The one who...?"

"Yes," Dess interrupted, her voice growing firmer.
"The one who tried to kill me. Last night, I remembered the night he threatened me. He said if he ever found me again, he would kill me."

Jayda reached across the table and took Dess's hand, squeezing it reassuringly. "Oh my god, Dess.
I'm so sorry you had to relive that. But he's not here now. You're safe."

"I know," Dess said, trying to believe it herself.
"But with everything that happened at the club, I can't help but feel like he could come back. What if he was involved in the shooting?"

Jayda's expression hardened with determination.
"We need to find out what's going on. We can't let fear control us. Have you talked to Durk about this?"
Dess shook her head. "Not yet. I wanted to talk to you first."

"Okay, let's call Chalynn and get her over here too.
We need to figure out our next steps," Jayda suggested.
Within the hour, Chalynn arrived, her face mirroring the concern that Jayda had shown. Dess recounted her nightmare once more, and Chalynn listened intently, her expression growing more resolute with every word.

"We need to be proactive," Chalynn said firmly.
"We can't wait for something bad to happen. We should talk to Durk, and if necessary, go to the police."
Dess nodded, feeling a surge of strength from her friends' support. "You're right. I can't live in fear anymore. Let's call Durk."

Jayda dialed Durk's number, and within minutes, he agreed to meet them at Dess's place. When he arrived, his expression was serious, understanding the gravity of the situation.
