DESS'S RESIDENCE |

The afternoon sun filtered through the curtains of Dess's living room, casting a soft glow over the space. Dess paced back and forth, her mind swirling with thoughts of the previous night and the lingering questions that haunted her. She couldn't shake the feeling of betrayal from Von, but her curiosity about the club shooting gnawed at her even more.

Her phone buzzed on the side of her nightstand, and she saw a message from Durk: "Can we meet up? There's something important I need to tell you."

With a sigh, Dess grabbed her keys and headed out. She drove to the agreed meeting spot. Durk was already there.

"Hey, Dess," Durk greeted her as she sat down. "Thanks for coming."

"What's this about, Durk?" Dess asked, getting straight to the point. She was tired and her patience was wearing thin.

"I wanted to talk about Von," Durk started, his tone serious. "But more importantly, I think we need to figure out what really happened at the club last night."

Dess's eyes narrowed. "I agree. Do you know anything more about the shooting?"

Durk nodded slowly. "I've been asking around. There's a lot of talk, but not many answers. People are scared, and most are keeping quiet. But from what I've gathered, it wasn't random. Someone had a specific target."

"Any idea who?" Dess asked, her frustration bubbling just beneath the surface.

Durk leaned in closer. "There's a rumor that it was a gang-related issue. Someone was there who wasn't supposed to be, and things got heated."

Dess felt a chill run down her spine. "And Von? Was he involved in any of this?"

Durk shook his head. "Von wasn't involved with the gangs. He was just there like the rest of us. But he did what he could to protect everyone. That's why he was armed."

Dess leaned back in her chair, absorbing the information. Her anger towards Von still simmered, but she felt a twinge of guilt. Maybe she had misjudged him.

Before she could speak, Durk continued, "Von asked me to talk to you. He regrets what happened between you two. Asian was just someone he hooked up with occasionally. She doesn't mean anything to him."

Dess looked down at her hands, feeling a mix of emotions. "I don't know, Durk. I'm still mad at him. But I need to know the truth."

"That's fair," Durk replied. "But just hear him out. He's genuinely sorry and wants to explain everything."

Dess sighed, nodding slowly. "Okay, I'll talk to him, Can you give him my number. But first, I need to understand what happened at that club. I need to feel safe."
