Chapter 34
Popcorn Kisses

I ran a nervous hand over my tunic blouse to smooth it out. The color was called 'blue petrol'. Soft, flowing material. There was an appliqué on the front that looked like a diamond and sparkled like one. I thought I was beautiful. And way too early. I sipped my water to keep my hands busy. I looked at the time, switched from one app to another, only to take another sip.

Waiters whizzed past me on silent feet. Plates with decoratively prepared dishes lay on sturdy arms. A waiter came to me twice and asked if I was ready to start with the entree. I answered no twice. When I explained that I was way too early and that my companion would be arriving soon, he nodded politely, but I didn't miss the pitying expression. Or maybe I was just imagining it and my over-vigilant brain was playing tricks on me.

Jeongin scurried past me like a shadow and then stood in front of me. My gaze climbed up on him. The first two buttons of his white shirt were open, revealing parts of a gold chain. His pointy smile with the dimples and feline eyes that still completely captivated me. How could someone look so stunning in a simple suit? But he would look even better with a tie.

Jeongin pulled out a chair and sat down opposite me. I wanted to compliment his appearance, but my head was empty, the connection between my speech center and my mouth seemed to be broken.

"You look beautiful," Jeongin said and placed his warm hand on mine.

It was a simple touch, but with a huge impact. It triggered a level 7 butterflies in my stomach.

"You... you too... beautiful," I breathed, my cheeks warm.

"Good evening. Are you ready for the entree?"

I heard the waiter's nasal whisper, but my attention remained on Jeongin.

Jeongin looked at the waiter, said: "Of course!", his hand slid down and with that my trance dissolved. It felt as if I had just woken up.

"We have pink wild pigeon breast in Serrano ham with select salads in walnut vinaigrette; or Sicilian fennel salad with orange fillets and fresh lobster; or tuna sashimi carpaccio with wakame seaweed salad."

As soon as the waiter had rattled off his text, he pulled out a device and a pen, ready to put in our order.

"Can we take everything?" Jeongin asked, his index finger and thumb thoughtfully on his chin, while sounding completely innocent.

"My apologies, sir, the coupon only allows one drink of choice, one entrée, one main course, one side course, and one dessert per person."

I held back a giggle, but gently kicked Jeongin's shin. "What do you recommend?" I asked the waiter.

A little later, I made sure no one was looking - the waiter had turned the corner, the other guests were busy with themselves - then I formed a small ball of intergalactic matter between my fingers and flicked it at Jeongin. The ball dissolved immediately, Jeongin was unharmed - as if I had thrown a cotton ball at him - but he did feel the slight impact.
