TRIGGER WARNING: the following chapter contains themes of sexual assault
Ariel was very aware of Diego.
The way his lips were moving as he spoke, his chest too as he breathed. He didn't use his hands much when he spoke.
A huge comparison to Jeff and Justin who were pretty much capable of poking her eye out of its socket with their frantic arm movements.
Diego was buff, which made sense with the sport he played. He easily towered over Ariel, even sitting up.
Ariel wanted to reach out and brush off the lint on his jacket.
But instead she was still. So rigid and abnormally still, it almost frightened her.
"...and that's when I found out, lemonade and Greek yoghurt don't go together." Diego laughed at his own story.
Ariel was tense, immediately feeling bad that she hadn't been listening. She gave him a polite smile and took another sip of her drink.
Bryce's concoction was already getting to her head, making her feel drowsy and dizzy.
She fought to keep alert, even if the wooziness was putting up more of a challenge than she thought.
"Hey, are you okay?"
Ariel didn't realise she was swaying slightly.
She sat up straight, clearing her throat and setting her drink aside.
"Yeah, just not a big drinker." She spoke.
Diego nodded.
He leaned back slightly.
Panic was running through him as he watched Ariel look away indifferently.
Damn, his game was way off. He couldn't shake the feeling that he was boring the girl more than impressing her in any way at the moment.
He just knew if he walked out of this room without a story to tell either Monty or Bryce, they would laugh at his ass until who knew when.
And he wanted something to happen with Ariel.
Not in a perverted way but he had been pinning over her for months. He just wanted her to feel him the way he was feeling her.
"Hey, I'm sorry again... about everything going on with Foley, I know you two are close."
Ariel flinched.
Diego wanted to slap himself. Why the hell did he keep bringing up Foley.
Not only was it obvious that Ariel didn't want to talk about him, Foley had also always been a major cock blocker for him in this department.
"You're gonna be in the school play, right?" Ariel suddenly spoke up shifting the conversation.
Diego sat up straight grateful for the change in conversation.
"Yeah, uhm, Monty and the guys on the team were dicking around and out my name up. It was supposed to be a joke but hey - I figured it would be a crime to not let the world hear this majestic voice."
Ariel snorted out a laugh.
Diego sat up, raising his brows at her. "Hey, hey, hey, you don't believe I have a voice of an angel?" He asked dramatically feigning offence.
Ariel tried to stifle her laugh with her hand. "No, no, I'm uh sure you have a brilliant voice."
Ariel was surprised by how slurred her words were coming out.
