The morning Rin woke up hearing squeals of excitement was the day that she couldn't see coming, not caring how she was looking in just a baggy grey custom shirt and pajama shorts she ran to the living room.
Daryl was hugging Darlene. Both adults looked to the hallway when they heard Rin, Darlene had a huge smile on her face, and tears fell down her face, "Oh, hi Rin, I'm sorry if I woke you up." Darlene said.
"Uh, yeah - I mean no! I mean..." Rin stammered, Daryl chuckled and walked over to her.
"Darlin', welcome 'er to the family!" Daryl said, patting Rin's back lightly.
Wait, what?
Did he say that? Did he really just say that? Rin couldn't comprehend what was just said, Rin came out of her dissociation when Daryl gently shook her back to reality.
"Rin, are ya good?"
"Huh? Uh yeah, yeah, absolutely..." Rin said slowly, "It's just, I didn't really see this comin' dad."
Daryl smiled at her, "I'm sure ya did. We've been datin' for a while." Daryl said before walking back to Darlene, "But you two girls get along."
It's only been eight months since her and Blake broke up, and now her father was getting married? It's not that Rin wasn't happy for her father. Of course, she wants him very happy! But having a new mother? That was going to be more of an adjustment.
Rin finally accepted her as Daryl's girlfriend and finally got clean from the drugs and weed.
"Dad." Rin called.
"Yeah darlin'?"
"Can I talk to ya for a minute?"
Daryl nodded and walked with Rin to the end of the hallway and to her room. She didn't know anywhere else to go, so she just went to her bedroom.
Daryl had a suspicion of what Rin wanted to talk about. It was quite obvious, "Dad, you know I'm happy for ya, and I want ya to be happy. But..." Rin stopped.
"Yeah?"
Rin looked at him and shrugged, "I dunno, I - are ya sure it's the right time? I mean, you've only been datin' 'er for a few months now. Maybe a half year now." She rambled on.
"Rin, I know you think that, but I'm sure of this. I know she wants this." Daryl said.
Rin looked at him with an unsure expression before nodding and went to hug him. This surprised him, Rin was never one to be this sappy or emotional. Though Rin had been surprising him a lot lately.
Daryl hugged back and ruffled her bedhead hair, kissing her forehead, "Don't worry baby, I promise ya, she'll be a great part of our family."
Rin smiled and nodded, pulling out of the hug, "Yeah, as long as yer happy then I don't care. I just don't want 'er thinkin' she's my new mom or somethin'."
Daryl let out a breathy chuckle, "Don't worry, she knows that." After that, Rin let Daryl go back to Darlene to celebrate their engagement.
The whole day went on and on and on about the engagement, Blake and Darren came over an hour later after Rin and Daryl's talk. Both siblings stayed in Rin's room and hung out together since they'd be future step-siblings. They might as well bond as siblings, and this gave Rin the opportunity to know Darren more.
Darren was a somewhat popular kid at school. He only had two friends, though, but to him, it was all he needed. Friends who only cared for popularity weren't worth it to him. Him and Blake are very close, and it was rare for them to fight, but they do have disagreements.
Rin liked Darren before he wasn't really worth getting to know of, but since their parents were getting married, she was dreading it, thinking he was a bratty young boy.
"So, what about you? Any popularity?" Darren asked.
But. That was only one thing she hated about him. Popularity. It was currently the only thing he wanted to talk about. It really annoyed Rin. Surprisingly, it didn't annoy Blake. Rin guesses that she was used to it by now.
Rin sighs, "Um, yes and no, I'm not popular, but I ain't no victim of bullyin' either. No one bothered with me, but that's how I like it." She said.
Darren made a face of satisfaction with her response, "That's nice."
"Mmm, hmm."
Rin sighs in boredom after a few minutes and gets up from her bed and walks to her vanity. In one of the drawers, she had a stash of weed that Daryl didn't know about, Blake did, but she didn't snitch, thankfully for Rin.
"Rin..."
Rin grunts, and Blake gives her a look, "I thought you were clean?"
"What? And that means I can't have a high once in a while?" Rin asked, irritated.
"That's not what I'm saying, but what I want to know is how Daryl doesn't know this?"
Rin walks over to her window and walks to the center of the room and turns on her ceiling fan, she looked at Blake and gives her a smirk.
Rolling her eyes, Blake waves her hand, "Yeah, okay, you proved your point. Can we move on?"
Darren and Rin laughed and moved on with their day until supper hit. The whole time Daryl and Darlene talked about wedding plans, Rin thought that they should discuss that somewhere else or just alone with their wedding planner.
Rin thought that it was way too early for planning and just enjoy being engaged for a year or two, Darlene already was planning on moving in. Even if Rin didn't mind having Blake and Darren living with her and Daryl, where would they even sleep? It was obvious already that Daryl and Darlene would share a bed, but what about her kids?
It was bothering her, and she couldn't stay silent anymore, "Dad."
"Yeah, darlin'?"
"Why are ya discussin' movin' in 'ere? Why not just move in with 'er or buy a house instead?" Shit, that sounded more aggressive than intended.
Daryl looked at her for a moment before responding, "Uh, were discussin' that at the moment darlin' were ya not listenin'?"
What? They were?
Rin stared at him, almost dissociating for a moment before snapping back into reality. Rin slightly shook her head, getting her thoughts straight as she nodded and got back to eating her food.
Daryl grew concerned for only a second about her. He knew his daughter would have to adjust again with his relationship, but this wad worrying him, he wanted Rin to be happy. He was happy now, and he wanted the same for her but that would need some work.
"Baby, you okay?" Daryl asked.
Rin nodded, not looking up as she was still eating.
Daryl nodded and went back to his conversation with Darlene, talking about their future plans along with their kids future plans. But with Rin being silent most of the time.
