Dimitri

I couldn't shake the feeling of dread and regret that surrounded me.

I sat on the stairs, next to a few people waiting for their turns to be called for questioning. They separated us into our normal training groups again. Six people had gone into the interrogation room before me, most of them walking out pale and terrified even if they tried to hide it.

Only one, Sean, came out with a slight grin on his face like he had just met up with his friends. But he was a psychopath, he found joy in anything sinister. So I knew that whatever was waiting in there was not going to be pretty and so did the 34 others that were waiting their turns.

This was all my fault. All of this happened, just because I was too curious to not go into that lab. Why did I have to take the vial? Why did I have to fall? No one would've known if I had just stayed calm and kept both feet planted on the ground. I allowed fear to get the best of me and now look at what I did. I got an innocent girl killed.

An innocent, little girl.

I could still see the tiny smile on her face before it happened. She didn't know any better. She didn't know of the evil of this world. She thought that the people who were talking to her were kind. Their dirty, wicked, appalling smile was the last thing she would ever know of this world. The smile of her own killers.

A tiny surge of anger started building up in my chest. It was my fault; I placed her in that situation but they didn't have to kill her. They could've chosen anyone else. There were rapists, murderers, actual thieves.

They could've used them or better yet no one. But no. Southside was not like that. Alastor was not like that. He was ruthless, merciless. A murderer.

I could feel the anger getting, higher, stronger and I could see the vison of it, of his body lying there beside hers. I could picture the birds coming down to eat his flesh as his rotting stench filled the air where could be smelled a mile away. That's the type of death he deserved.

He deserved to have is body cut from limp to limp, sliced into tiny pieces then scatter around for the wild animals to feast on it. I hoped he burned in hell. That his soul would never know what it was like to have rest. I hoped all the people he had hurt, hunt his soul until the end of the earth and he meets eternal suffering.

I hoped that when the stars fall down, the earth breaks into pieces and the sky tears open, he will still roam the earth looking for a sanctuary that will never come.

"Dimitri Santias." I snapped out of it as my name was called. I looked over my shoulder to a lady, one of Alastor's workers, holding open the door for me.

Swallowing the bile in my mouth, I got up, passed by her and into the room.

The place was small. It looked like they ran to nearest room they could find, tried to sweep away the dust on the wall but did a poor job at it. In the middle of the room was a giant brown, table, too big for the room, behind it was one of the commanders that usually trained my group. He gestured for me to sit.

His short, black hair fell just a few inches over his forehead, giving the perfect view to his, sharp, fox-like-eyes that watched me like a hawk.

"How are you doing?" he asked me, crossing his arm as he leaned forward on the table. His eyes were laser focused on me, so concentrated I bet he could see the sweats oozing through the pores of my skin. The lady passed by me to go stand beside him.

"I'm alright." I answered, keeping my voice at bay but there was a slight shakiness to it. One I'm sure he noticed. He didn't yell when he spoke, he didn't assert dominance, he was relaxed, soft spoken with no rush and that was what made him dangerous. Because I knew he was paying attention to every little detail. And I was right when he asked the next question.

"Are you nervous? Your fidgeting." He glanced down at my hands where I've been unknowingly clipping at my nails. I stopped, pressing my hands down on my lap and he watched me, intently, mentally taking all the notes he needed. A tiny smirk pulled at his lips. "Where were you last night Dimitri?"

"In my room."

"That's what everyone said, but someone was out. Someone went somewhere they weren't supposed to. That wasn't you, was it Dimitri?"

I shook my head. "No, Sir."

He nodded, slowly. "You're one of the best subordinates we have on camp. Your skills and techniques could be used in the commander's field, or even the guards. You wouldn't jeopardise that by lying to me, now would you?"

Silence took over for a moment, he waiting and I thinking. Then I shook my head. "I would never dare. I was in my room last night. There was someone with me." the lady's eyes shoot up to look at me through her long lashes. "A girl."

"Who?"

"Sakura. She's the girl that they found in the woods."

"The red head?" I nodded. "That's funny, because she said she was by herself last night."

My heart dropped then it started accelerating. "She said she was in her room until she heard the sirens then her curiosity got the best of her and she went to look. She ran into one of our commanders actually. A delling. She didn't mention anything about being in anyone else's room."

It felt like the earth just opened up and swallowed me whole. My chest was suddenly too small for my pounding heart, my throat to tight to swallow and ears too tiny for the blood pumping through my veins.

She betrayed me.

Again.

I blinked the shock away, keeping my breathing to normal. She betrayed me. She fucking betrayed me.

Fucking Sakura.

I could feel the physical ache, like she grabbed a two edges sword and stabbed me in the chest and now she was just twisting and turning, ripping through my flesh.

Then the guard spoke again, "Are you sure you were with her?" he asked.

Why would I need to be sure if he already knew I wasn't?

Then the realisation hit me and I nodded.

"Alright." He relaxed back in his chair, taking a new, casual tone. Like I was one of his friends. "But you do know that her sneaking into your room is still breaking a rule, right?"

The motherfucker. He tried to trick me. She didn't betray me. I fought a smile from sneaking onto my face.

"We're sorry."

He half laughed half smiled. "Don't be. You don't get in trouble unless you're caught. There's no snitch here. Tell me is she as feisty as she looks. I heard rumours that she's wild." He smiled the most vile, creepy grin and I felt disgusted.

Anger grew in me at the thought of Nekane being the one who told him. He was the only other person Sakura engaged with and even if it was none of my business he was wrong for that. Dead wrong and I truly hoped that it was lie.

The lady cleared her throat purposely, causing him to look at her annoyed before she mentioned that there were other people to be interrogated.

"You can go now, Dimitri." I helped myself up, the lady had already opened the door and he called from behind me. "I'm serious about the commander thing. Keep up the good work and you'll be on this side next time."
