"I don't think we should stay at the same camp site the whole time so we should move up into the mountains tonight." Logan shovelled the last of the mac and cheese into his mouth and started rolling up the tarp. It had already started to get dark and the black forest was starting to creep Adelaide out. She threw her clothes into her duffle bag and rolled up her sleeping bag. The guys were going to help out with the tents. Adelaide looked warily into the trees and sat on a log. Chase had put out the fire already but the coals were still burning. Nathan came and sat down beside her.
"It's okay, the bears aren't out this time of year." Nathan's hand hovered above hers for a moment but he shoved it into his pocket. "Walk with me?" He pulled on the hood of his waterproof jacket and grabbed his bags. Logan and Aria grabbed their stuff and headed up a small trail with them. She nodded and sighed. Just as they entered the tree line the sky decided to dump its contents on them. Adelaide shivered and pulled two of Nathan's sweaters around herself. A fork of lightning was clearly visible up ahead. She shrieked and clung onto Nathan's neck.
"Hey, Laidy it's just lightning." He laughed as he pried her off his neck. He grabbed her hand and jogged to catch up with Logan and Aria. His hands were so nice and warm... she caught herself staring at the line of his jaw and his soft, curved smile and forced herself to look away. They burst out of the trees into a small meadow.
Logan started to unroll a tent. Nathan found some reasonably dry wood and lit it with his lighter.
"I'll set up your tent. You should dry off." Nathan poked a stick in the fire. Adelaide stuck out her hands warming them by the fire. Nathan flicked some rain off his nose and started to set up Adelaide's tent. Logan sat down next to Adelaide.
"Nathan really likes you, you know."
"So that's what this whole protector thing has been about. I was starting to wonder." She said with a yawn.
"Just be careful. Believe it or not a man's soul is very breakable." Logan looked at her.
"All right. I'll be careful!" Adelaide's head shot up as she heard something moving around in the bushes. "Um... Logan do you hear that?" He nodded and crept to the tree line with a large tree branch. Chase and Jennifer came out of the trees.
"Relax guys! It's just us." Jennifer laughed and dug out some trail mix and tossed a bag to everyone.
"Better go to bed everyone! We're looking at another rainy day ahead of us."
