It was a few weeks after Oliver's visit and Adelaide had kept in constant contact with him. He was driving over for one of Zach's basketball games and he was picking her up later. Adelaide hadn't talked to Nathan at all and she had avoided talking about him with her friends at all costs. She had overheard from Chase and Logan that he had a girlfriend but she couldn't bring herself to believe that it was true. Adelaide could just imagine a preppy, nasally voiced blonde taking her place. She had been getting 'guy advice' from Oliver and he did have a point. She was never dating him in the first place so it really had no effect on her what he did.
Logan had been spending a lot of time with her since Nate had left. Late night snack runs, the exchange of DVD's, rides to town. It was what a normal friend would do, regardless if he was a guy or not. Right? Adelaide still hadn't talked to Adam yet either. Oliver had passed along that she wanted to get together with him but she just wanted to give her brother some breathing space. She knew the last thing she wanted was another family fight. She had invited Logan along to Zach's game just because Ollie was interested to get to know him. It was like he was playing match maker and every time they would go out for dinner or a movie Oliver would point at a guy who walked past and say, 'that one?'. Adelaide wondered what would happen if she just said yes once.
Oliver knocked at her door and she ushered him inside. He noticed a collection of notes and cards on my desk and grabbed them before she had the chance to explain.
"Logan or Nate?" He said, lifting an eyebrow incredulously.
"Both actually." She retorted as she grabbed them out of his hand. It was a collection of notes from Logan that had been slipped under her door asking if she wanted or needed anything and the rest were little cards of encouragement from Nathan. Pretty lame, but she still liked pulling them out and looking at them from time to time.
"You ready to go?" Oliver leaned against her closet.
"Yeah. Logan is going to meet us in the lobby." I grabbed my White Point Eagles sweater (well technically Nathan's) and locked my door.
"Hey Addie, should I drop any hints?" Oliver looked at me, a glint in his eye.
"What?"
"Should I, you know, lay down the cards? Make this guy like you?"
"No! God, Ollie, no!" Adelaide gave him a death glare and when the elevator doors opened she pulled him aside. "Please. This is a guy that I really like having as a friend. Don't screw it up for me." Adelaide heard a voice behind her.
"Can that 'really like' be taken out of context?" Logan stood there, grinning.
"No. Can we just go to the game please? Zach gave us tickets for the friends and family section but I don't want to be late." She stormed out to Ollie's car.
Adelaide's POV:
I heard the guys snicker and high five. Logan was a really nice guy but I really had no desire to go out with him, with or without Oliver's pleading. I missed Nate but there wasn't anything I could do to bring him back to White Point. We arrived at the school and Logan threw his arm around my shoulders. I shrugged off the awkwardness of it and ignored Ollie's raised eyebrow.
"I should probably warn you before the game but Nathan's school is playing here tonight." Logan ran a hand through his hair.
"What? And you didn't think to tell me? Besides he doesn't play basketball so why should that matter?"
"Uh, well he plays basketball now. I didn't tell you because I knew you were excited to see Zach and I wanted to get to know your brother." Logan looked uncomfortable and I really didn't blame him.
