Clara was already panicking and starting to cry. "I wasn't paying attention! I don't know where Daida is!"
"Shh, it's okay!" Elianore gently picked her up and started looking around the crowd. It was hard to pick out Warrick in a whole sea of bald heads. "Warrick!" He yelled, immediately making all the nearest villagers flinch. "Warrick!"
A hand shot in the air, at the edge of the crowd farthest from the stage.
"There!" Elianore held Clara in the air. "Warrick!"
Warrick's face changed, and he began waving towards the stage frantically.
"He wants you to escort me." Clara looked down at Elianore.
"What?" Elianore put her back on the ground.
"I never gave him the bangle..." She started fishing through her pockets. "He really wanted me to ask (y/n) or Nathaniel instead, but I don't have time to get back to him and then all the way up front." She pulled out the gold bracelet that matched her own. "Can you be my escort today?" She looked up at Elianore, her eyes still damp. "Daida already gave his permission, and I know Mema would trust you to escort me in her place. And I trust you too. You're like a really cool, nice, older brother. And it would make me really happy to know you were the one presenting me to the village."
Elianore wanted to argue, on some level. But there was no time to argue, and no time to find you or Nathaniel. So instead, he just took the bangle from Clara, and slipped it onto his right wrist. "We better hurry, kiddo." He scooped her up and started pushing through the crowd.
Everyone's uneasiness around him certainly made it easier. Nobody wanted to bump shoulders with him, or piss him off by blocking him.
"Second to last, Lucida!" Percy's voice called, and Elianore watched as he picked up a brown bundle to hand to her. "Who will be studying under our very own Nordic and Smith, to become an armorer. And for that, I present you with a brown apron, which you will wear with pride before our village. You will be the first armorer Täshitya has had in many years."
A loud whistle rang above the crowd, and it sounded like it was from Smith. Lucida took the robe from Percy, and quickly shuffled off the stage, where her mother embraced her.
"Clara!" Percy's wife almost scolded. "You're almost late! Where's your escort?"
"Right here!" Clara held up Elianore's right hand, showing the bangle.
Percy's wife paused for a moment, uncertain. Elianore held his breath for a moment. He felt like he was once again in the End, surrounded by people who hated him solely because they were scared of him.
"Go on, hustle up!" She shooed them through.
Elianore put Clara down, still holding her hand as he walked her to the steps. "Make your mom proud, kid."
"I will." She smiled and let go, running onto the stage.
Percy smiled at her, but stammered instantly upon seeing Elianore, so there was a moment of silence as Clara stood onstage, unintroduced.
Finally, Percy shook it off. "Finally, sweet Clara." He turned to pick up a robe out of the barrel next to him. "Clara has chosen a special role, one held by her mother before her. She will be studying under all of our village's masters, in a pursuit to take care of our people, so that we can take care of everyone else. For that, she is presented with a green robe." Percy smiled, holding out the green bundle for Clara. "The players call you 'Nitwit', but we will call you Angard, which means 'our village's keeper.' In the last thousand years, we have not had a green robe amongst us. You will wear it with pride, and the stars will smile upon you."
