CAROLINE WELLS
77We're at Oscar's family home for the week. His family is out of town and everyone's acting like we're teenagers at a house party for the first time. I was going to go home for the week but I wouldn't have much time and I have interviews and lots of media prep here.
I've been here for four days already and basically slept the whole time, race weekends really take a lot out of me because i'm so introverted.
It's a beautiful day, sunny with not a cloud in the sky. Which also means it's very hot. I said we should go to the beach but everyone disagreed, not wanting to deal with fans.
So we're in Oscar's huge backyard, laying out by the pool. At least I am. Max, Daniel, Oscar, and Oscar's friend are playing chicken while the others make drinks.
I roll my eyes and lay back on my chair, holding my book in front of my face to block the sun. I'm wearing a dark green bikini and can feel myself tanning minute by minute.
The doorbell rings but they don't wait for someone to open the door. Alex Albon and his girlfriend, Lily muni he walk in. I scream.
"Lily!" I stand and run over to her, hugging my girl as she tries to not drop the box of strawberries she's holding, "I missed you!"
She laughs and Alex takes the strawberries, "Good to see you too, Caroline." He jokes as I put my arm around his girlfriend.
"You guys went to the farmers market?" I snatch a strawberry and they both nod.
"Okay bye Alex, I have to catch up with Caro!" Lily and I giggle and run over to my seat by the pool. She sets her things down next to me and pulls off her crocheted beach cover up.
"How are you? Tell me everything!" I clap my hands together before sipping my vodka lemonade.
"So good! I have a bit of a break from golf so I get to hang around you guys for a while!" I sigh contentedly, "How are you? I saw your crash last weekend." She makes a face and no so subtly looks over to Lando
"I'm doing okay... Just annoyed. If i've learned anything from racing it's to not get stuck on previous- matters."
"Very mature of you." she nods while smirking, "How do you really feel?"
"So fucking pissed." I whisper, "Whatever, I let him have it post crash so, I genuinely am doing better."
"Girl, I saw. Loved it." Alex brings her a drink and she smiles, we drift off into gossiping about basically everyone in the public eye.
A whistle sounds from the other side of the yard, "Girls!" Oscar yells, "Wanna eat?" I straighten up at the smell of burgers and hotdogs on the barbecue.
I pull my oversized t-shirt on and walk over to them, "Is there any shr-"
"I swear Caroline if you say shrimp!" The aussie yells and I shut my mouth. Lily, Alex, and I talk while in line, everyone's arguing about what sport they would play if they weren't in f1.
"How about you, Caro?" Max invites me into the conversation as i'm picking up a patty for my burger.
"Probably soccer but honestly I suck at sports." I shrug.
"I'd be a footballer!" Daniel says in his fake american accent, throwing the football to Alex.
In the next five seconds, I accept my fate.
1 I see the ball flying at me.
2 Alex has never played american football.
3 Daniel would NOT be a footballer with this aim.
4 Alex does end up grabbing the ball but ends up backing into me.
5 I hit my arm on the barbecue.
