5 MONTHS LATER
it's been a long day at work, filled with meetings and paperwork. by the time I finish up and get in my car to drive home, I'm feeling tired and ready to relax. but as I get closer to home, I start to feel a sense of excitement building up inside me. I can't wait to see Millie, to wrap my arms around her and forget about everything else for the night.
I unlock the door to our home and step inside, my heart beating a little faster as I call out to her
"Babe, I'm home!"
"in the living room!!" I immediately make my way to the living room, my eyes searching for Millie as I walk through the house. When I see her sitting in the living room, my heart skips a beat and a smile spreads across my face.
"There you are. I've been looking forward to this moment all day."
"before you say anything... I have surprise for you." I raise an eyebrow at her words, feeling curious and intrigued. a surprise from her? that sounds promising.
"A surprise, huh? You have my attention. What is it?"
"I'll go get it." I watch as she stands up and leaves the room, feeling even more intrigued. My mind is racing with possibilities, trying to guess what the surprise could be. I sit down on the couch and wait patiently for her to return.
I open the box and my eyes widen as I see the baby items inside. i immediately understand what this means, my heart starting to race with excitement. I look up at Millie, speechless for a moment as I take in the news. after a moment, I manage to find my voice.
"Are you...are you saying what I think you're saying? We're having a baby?"
"yes yes yes!" I let out a joyful laugh, feeling a wave of happiness and disbelief wash over me. I pull her into a tight embrace, holding her close as I try to process the news.
"We're having a baby. We're going to be parents. This is incredible."
"yes we are." I hold her tightly, still feeling amazed at the news. A million thoughts start to race through my mind, ranging from excitement to nervousness.
"This is unbelievable. I can't believe we're going to be parents. We're going to have a baby. We have to start preparing, get everything ready for the baby. And we're going to need to start thinking about names, cribs, diapers, car seats..."
"babe! We will find out the gender then bring it all."
I take a deep breath and nod, realizing that she's right. We don't need to start making rash decisions and buying everything immediately. There's plenty of time to get everything sorted out.
"You're right, you're right. I'm just so excited. And nervous. And happy. And maybe a little scared."
-------------------
We're standing in front of our friends and family, excitement and anticipation in the air as everyone waits to find out the gender of our baby. I'm holding Millie's hand tightly, feeling a mixture of excitement and nerves as the moment nears.
Nancy, who is in charge of revealing the gender, holds up a balloon filled with either blue or pink confetti. Everyone's eyes are fixated on the balloon, waiting for it to be popped open to reveal the gender.
"READY?" Nancy asks.
Everyone nods and murmurs of excitement fill the room. I grip Millie's hand a little tighter, feeling my heart racing with anticipation. It's a moment we've been waiting for for months, and it's finally here.
"ONE!"
The room falls silent as everyone waits for the countdown to continue. I can feel the tension in the air, everyone holding their breath as they await the big reveal.
"Two!"
The room is so quiet, you could hear a pin drop. My heart is racing in my chest, my mind filled with thoughts of what the gender could be. blue or pink? it's a 50/50 chance, and I'm feeling equal parts excited and anxious.
"Three!!" Nancy pops the balloon and PINK confetti appears.
The pink confetti flutters down to the ground, and the room erupts in cheers and applause. I feel a rush of joy and excitement wash over me, a wide smile spreading across my face.
"It's a girl!" I pull Millie into a tight hug, feeling overwhelmed with happiness.
3 years later.
"AMELIA EAT THE GRAPES!" Millie chases Amelia around the couch.
"no, its too sour."
"daddy try the grapes, aren't they too sour. they're on the fork that's with mommy." I laugh again at her persistence, realizing that she's referring to the grapes that are on the fork in Millie's hand. I look up at Millie with a playful grin.
"Oh, you want me to try those grapes? On mom's fork?" Amelia nods.
I continue to play along, pretending to consider her request. I look at Millie, raising an eyebrow as if asking for her permission.
"Well, if the little princess insists, I guess I have no choice."
"try him see." Amelia says. I pretend to be reluctant, but I can't help but smile at Amelia's insistence. I put on a serious expression, acting like this is a very important task.
"Fine, fine. I'll try them. But only because the princess commands it."
"yes." Amelia replies. I take the fork from Millie and pop the grape into my mouth, making a show of chewing and swallowing. I look at Amelia with an exaggerated expression of distaste.
"Mmm, you know what? These are really sour. You were right all along, darling."
"HAH SEE MOM!" Amelia pokes her tongue out.
I chuckle at Amelia's reaction, enjoying the playful exchange between the two of them. I look over at Millie, my expression amused and affectionate.
"Looks like our little one wins this round. You can't argue with that logic."
"I've been begging her for hours to eat the grapes for 30 minutes and you simply agree with her??"
I shrug, trying to keep a straight face but failing to hide my amusement. I can't resist teasing her just a bit.
"What can I say? The princess has a way with words. She just has a certain charm that I can't resist."
I smile as Amelia climbs into my lap, settling comfortably against me. I wrap my arms around her, feeling a wave of affection and love wash over me as she snuggles up against me
"the grapes aren't sour." I laugh at her expression and shake my head in mock disappointment.
"Oh, now you're just being dramatic. The grapes weren't that sour."
"if they aren't sour let Amelia eat them." I smile and look down at Amelia in my lap.
"What do you say, sweetheart? Are your mom's grapes too sour for you?"
"I AM NOT GOING TO EAT THEM" Amelia says. I laugh as Amelia jumps on the couch, a ball of energy and determination. I look over at Millie with an expression of mock helplessness.
"Looks like we've got ourselves a little stubborn one on our hands."
