Romeo awoke bright and early the next morning, he'd slept surprisingly well on the comfortable lake house bed despite his parents continuous shouting throughout the night. Standing up he stretched before grabbing his swimming trunks and concealer out of the drawers and heading into the bathroom.

Once inside Romeo took a quick warm shower, he liked his showers scalding hot because of the discomfort it caused his skin. Once his hair was thoroughly washed he stepped out pulling the swimming trunks on then carefully opening the concealer.

Delicately he coated his arm with the damp mixture, it was almost a perfect match to his skin color, it was only if observed closely that eyebrows might be raised. No one had ever questioned it though. Sighing as he covered the last scar on his wrist wincing at the contact he closed the bottle. Romeo was slightly concerned it'd rub off whilst he was in the water but it'd be better to test it now alone rather than when other people were about.

Quietly he tiptoed past the couch his dad was drunkenly passed out on snoring his head off, he'd be there for another good hour probably.

Discreetly taking the key from the countertop Romeo unlocked the door pushing it open softly then closing it just as quietly.

Immediately he jogged over to the grassy bank plunging head first into the water, Romeo prided himself in being a very strong swimmer. It was one of the many activities he partook in to keep his chiselled physique intact.

The sun shone down on the calm water reflecting shinily off the surface of it, Romeo swam around shaking the water droplets from his damp blonde hair. This was what relaxation felt like to him, listening to the birds chirping from their nests upon the high treetops and splashing around in the deep blue lake.

The lake itself wasn't massive, it was medium sized with both ends of it viewable from each other, there were about 16 cabins dotted around the oval shaped water body, each was a fair distance apart but still close enough to be within easy walking distance, and to see from the windows as Romeo had learnt yesterday.

Sighing he floated on his back letting the rapids guide him wherever they pleased. His body drunk in the warm sunlight as it glared down upon him, Romeo put his ears into the water hearing the rapids swirling around.

He continued to float about on the water staring up at the bright blue sky, only a few stray clouds were dotting it that morning.

All of a sudden the peace was shattered, a loud splash sounded from just beside him followed by Romeo being hit in the face by something soft and rubbery. In shock he swivelled over getting dunked under the water before rising again his eyes blurred by the liquid.

The object that had hit him was a colorful beach ball, it bobbed about on the water it's colorful paints a stark contrast to the navy blue water.

"Watch where you're throwing that god damn thing!" Romeo yelled in frustration gripping the beach ball and tossing it back the direction it had come from whilst still blinking water from his irritated brown eyes.

Glancing up at the people close by he spotted the quiet boy he'd spied sat under the tree, his older sister who had a bitchy look on her face, and the black and white dog who was darting between their legs excitedly, probably wanting the beach ball.

"Thanks, sorry about that" The boy said softly tilting over to grab the beach ball from the edge of the water where Romeo had so aggressively tossed it. Romeo was secretly hoping the brunette would fall in but he didn't. No free entertainment today then.

"Don't thank him, he's being a douche!" The sister spat folding her arms and glaring at Romeo.

"I'm not the one with such atrocious aim I can't even throw a beach ball properly" Romeo countered sassily narrowing his eyes at the girl, she like the boy had brown hair, hers was much longer than his though going past her shoulders.

"It's called having fun, you heard of it or are you always this grumpy?" She snapped back, Romeo scowled further at her. She was pissing him off now.

"I'm trying to relax, so I don't want bratty girls like you throwing tantrums over their own mistakes" Romeo told her roughly.

"I'm throwing a tantrum? That's very rich coming from you!" She answered also beginning to look annoyed, the boy meanwhile just stood awkwardly staring between the two.

Romeo paused glaring at her before speaking again. "Shut the fuck up hussy" Romeo hissed before turning around and swimming deftly away, it was almost comical how slow he moved away from her, yet she didn't call back or say another word. Soon Romeo could hear the bouncing of the beach ball again and soft, sing song giggling of the boy.

Deciding he'd had enough time in the water Romeo swum to shore, dried off then headed back into his cabin. His dad was still passed out asleep on the couch. The man was snoring so loudly Romeo was surprised he wasn't waking himself up. Taking advantage of his parents drunken slumber Romeo opened the fridge taking one of the ice cold cans of beer he'd bought for them yesterday.

Clutching the cold beverage in his hand Romeo left the cabin this time lounging on one of the chairs on their cabin porch. The sun was still shining beautifully down upon the lake with the high roofed cabins casting shadows onto the murky water. It really was such a peaceful place, especially compared to home.

Despite this Romeo knew when his parents eventually awoke it'd be everything but calm, their shouting would ring through his ears and he'd probably get hit again.

Glancing at the concealer on his arm Romeo sighed in satisfaction, it had stayed on throughout his swim. That meant he was free to go swimming basically whenever he wanted without having to worry about his scars being exposed. Other people seeing them was one of the things he feared the most.

Taking a sip of the fizzy beer and soaking in the sunlight Romeo glanced across the lake at the cabin beside his, the boy, his sister and their dog were still by the lakeside playing with the beach ball passing it between one another as the dog followed it.

Romeo looked away shutting his eyes in tranquility. As he sipped from the beer can he allowed himself to doze off in the bright sunshine, with the noise of the waves lapping at the shore filling his ears with their sweet harmonies.
