Romeo sat by the lake drinking in the sunlight as he gazed out upon the scenic view, after his beating last night he'd actually managed to sleep somewhat okay, it had taken a bit of time but once he'd dozed off he was out like a light, now he was just sat by the water enjoying the tranquillity of the birds chirping their cheerful songs and the water lapping at his feet calmingly.
Shutting his eyes Romeo listened intently, as so often happened by the lake loud barking soon filled the air. That must be Gabriel's dog Bubbles again. This still slightly annoyed Romeo but he'd found himself becoming more fond of the Summers dog as time went on, warming up to Gabriel himself probably helped too.
As he lay in the light breeze the barking seemed to get louder, trying to ignore it Romeo relaxed his head against the swaying grass feeling the soft green blades intertwining with his blonde locks. The barking continued to get louder and suddenly panting became audible, along with that a warm, damp and rough feeling began touching Romeo's cheek.
Sitting up in surprise Romeo came face to face with the very dog he'd been hearing, that's why it had been getting louder. The dog must've been getting closer rather than the volume of it's shrill barks increasing. Romeo petted the dog comfortably scratching it between the ears as it settled down beside him.
Footsteps soon approached and Romeo expected to see Gabriel rushing up to him out of breath, holding the lead and apologising profusely about how Bubbles had gotten out the house before he could stop her, but as he glanced behind him his eyes met a different sight. Instead of the sweet, soft spoken brunette it was Laila, the bitchy sister.
Rolling his eyes Romeo stood up his back now facing the lake as he folded his arms staring her down intently. He really didn't get on with this girl, it was clear how much she cared about her little brother, a trait they seemed to share. Yet she was just a bitch to Romeo. "You not know how to use a lead?" Romeo questioned hostility lacing his words.
"She doesn't always need to be on lead, she's allowed freedom to run about if she pleases" Laila snapped back narrowing her eyes at him as her long brunette hair swirled around her in the breeze. It was the same shade as Gabriel's but it not being on Gabriel's head instantly made it a downgrade.
"Cool" Romeo replied as the dog bounded around the pair happily clearly not sensing the storm brewing in the air.
"I was hoping I'd catch you out here actually" Laila commented clearly not planning on going anywhere right away.
"I can't say the same" Romeo mumbled back making her scowl further at him.
"What's your game with my brother?" She hissed protectively, so that's what this was about.
"Snakes and Ladders" Romeo told her smirking cockily.
"I'm not playing around, why have you been spending time with him all of a sudden when you wanted nothing to do with him before? What's your game plan?" She asked venom clear in her words.
"I'm not playing a game with him mamma bear" Romeo assured her keeping the smirk plastered on his face.
"I know what boys like you want" She enforced calmly as Bubbles jumped up and down at her scraping her paws on Laila's navy blue summer dress, she simply shooed her away not breaking eye contact with Romeo at all.
"And what's that?" Romeo queried raising his eyebrows challengingly.
"You want to get in his pants, he's sweet, kind, and doesn't know how to say no when someone pressures him. I've seen it so many times before. You're leading him on to get some quick sex. Then you're going to break his heart, discard him like a new toy you've gotten bored of" Laila explained confidently. Her stance threatening.
"Nice assumption, but no" Romeo started but before he could continue the older sister cut him off.
"I'm not stupid Romeo. He's no Juliet. He's just easy for you, that's how you see him isn't it? Easy, weak and without feelings. I know your type. He's been hurt by too many people like you for me to just stand around and watch it happen again" She insisted roughly.
"You need to have more faith in your brother" Romeo snapped back getting annoyed now. He wasn't like his parents, he'd never be like them. He wanted to be a good person. Yet Laila wasn't even giving him a chance. Gabriel was the first boy he'd ever fallen for like this. The last thing he wanted to do was hurt the skinny brunette, it made Romeo angry other boys had such cold hearts they could break an innocent, naïve boy like that.
"Don't lecture me on faith you piece of shit, you aren't to go near my brother again! You got that?" she hissed back aggressively.
"I'd like to see you stop me" Romeo challenged back raising his eyebrows at her. Looking absolutely pissed off Laila stepped forward placing her hands on Romeo's bare chest and pushing him backwards towards the water. Romeo fell backwards in surprise but on his way down he latched onto her arm pulling her down with him.
They both splashed clumsily into the water the air splitting with a high pitched scream which was abruptly cut off as Laila went under. Romeo resurfaced smirking at the sister who was now stumbling out of the lake drenched from head to toe as Bubbles barked loudly jumping around her clearly thinking she was playing a game.
"What the fuck is wrong with you!" Laila yelled angrily looking down at her drenched dress. "You're lucky I didn't have my phone on me or you'd be paying for a new one!""Don't give what you can't take" Romeo told her coldly, Laila huffed in annoyance beginning the walk back to her cabin water dripping in her wake from her hair and dress. Romeo smirked watching her go as he made his way out of the water too. He was fine, he was in only swimming trunks so getting soaked didn't matter at all to him.
As he watched Laila march off in annoyance his gaze shifted to her cabin, he spotted Gabriel stood on the porch staring directly at him, the pair made eye contact and kept it for a second before Romeo waved lightly.Although he couldn't make it out from here he could very well imagine the blush forming on Gabriel's face in that moment as he gave a small wave back along with a thumbs up. Romeo wondered if he'd seen the exchange between himself and his older sister. If he had he didn't look mad. Romeo watched on as Laila reached the porch pointing at him as she scowled in his direction talking to Gabriel. She then stormed past him into the cabin.
Romeo smirked as Gabriel glanced back at him with a shrug and what looked like a giggle. Glancing away Romeo gazed back up at the clear blue sky. That had been an eventful start to his day for sure.
