Romeo awoke the next morning feeling unusually well rested, he opened his eyes stretching slightly but feeling the weight of something light leaning against him along with soft breaths. Gabriel was still cutely cuddled into him his eyes tightly shut. The duvet was wrapped comfortably around his skinny frame keeping him warm along with Romeo's body pressed to his.
Smiling Romeo reached out playing softly with the brunettes hair not wanting to wake him up. He was so cute and peaceful when he was asleep. After a while of just lying there watching his boyfriend sleep Romeo decided it might be considered a bit creepy so sat up carefully shuffling out of the bed as to not wake his sleeping beauty.
Quietly Romeo tiptoed to the pile of clothes that had been discarded last night so haphazardly on the carpet. He found his pieces putting them on them slipping out of the door, he made his way downstairs to grab a drink but came face to face with the person in the house he least wanted to see, Laila.
"Morning loser" She whispered groggily clearly still half asleep and draped in a purple dressing gown.
"Morning dipshit" Romeo replied shortly moving past her and to where the glasses were kept so he could fill one up to drink from.
"Have fun fucking my brother last night?" Laila questioned casually.
"None of your business" Romeo told her stubbornly picking a glass up and filling it with ice cold water from the shiny silver tap. He was glad he'd put his sweater back on otherwise she'd have seen the cuts. He still needed to cover them up.
Laila rolled her eyes at this. "My rooms next door, just be a bit quieter next time okay? I don't wanna hear my little brother fucking moaning and shit" She stated stonily.
"Whatever" Romeo answered calmly. He took a sip of his water glancing around the small kitchen. It was very modern, the countertops were white and shiny and the cupboards were a shade of jet black with sparkling gold handles. Compared to the rest of the house it was a lot fancier, which made sense since Mrs Summer was obviously into her cooking and baking, that was clear from the cafe she ran next door.
"Thank you for not just... using him" Laila then blurted out looking sheepish. "Honestly I had you down for a selfish, opportunistic little jock who didn't think twice before discarding an easy hook up, but you've proved me wrong" she explained.
"Was that... a compliment?" Romeo gasped out dramatically making the girl roll her eyes in irritation.
"Don't get used to it. I still think you suck" She stated.
"I don't, but your brother does" Romeo retorted smirking in amusement as her face screwed up.
"TMI Romeo" She hissed looking grossed out.
Romeo placed his glass in the sink about to head back up the stairs when she stopped him again. "But remember what I told you early on, if you EVER hurt him. Ever, you won't be around much longer" she vowed her words eerily cold. Romeo just smirked and gave a her a salute before bounding back up the stairs.
He slipped quietly into Gabriel's room glancing at the bed, the skinny brunette was still sound asleep his breathing slow and relaxed. He looked so adorable.
Romeo needed to go home but didn't want to wake him. Sighing the blonde gathered his things together, then he reached onto Gabriel's desk taking out a post it note and a pen and writing his boyfriend a sweet message explaining he'd gone home, he loved him and why he didn't wake him up.
Taking one last glance at Gabriel, Romeo left the bedroom descending the stairs, saying goodbye to Mr and Mrs Summers who were now sat in the living room. Then heading out of the door.
The train ride home was a bleak one, not only were multiple trains cancelled making it near evening by the time Romeo got back to his house, but the whole time he knew exactly what he'd be returning too, abusive pieces of shit who would likely not be happy about his disappearance.
He'd had a brief phone call with Gabriel whilst waiting for his train. They'd talked about last night and if Romeo would be okay when he got home. Romeo as usual had gotten defensive so Gabriel had dropped the subject quite quickly.
Predictably the moment he walked in he heard shouting. "He's fucking here!" Mrs Swift yelled advancing into the living room.
"Just in time to make us dinner, hurry the fuck up. Where have you even been?" Mr Swift shouted back eyeing up Romeo in disgust.
"With a friend, make your own dinner" Romeo spat back, he wasn't in the mood for this shit.
"I bet you were with that fucking faggot, weren't you?" Mrs Swift snarled in return.
"So what if I was? And he's not a faggot, he's a human being. His name is Gabriel" Romeo countered narrowing his deep brown eyes to slits at the pair.
"A faggot is a faggot, we don't need their life story" Mrs Swift huffed folding her arms.
"Now like I said, make us dinner or I swear to god I will rip those stitches out of your pathetic head" Mr Swift threatened, he was drunk. So was his Mom. So the chances he would actually follow through with that threat were pretty high. The last thing Romeo needed was to be back in hospital explaining all his bruises and self harm scars again.
Sighing he got to work making a basic meal of chicken nuggets, fries and salad. He served the 3 plates onto the table but as soon as he sat down Mr Swift swiped Romeos plate aggressively off of the surface. It shattered on the floor sending Romeo's food all over the dirty floorboards.
"None for you, go back to your room. I don't want to hear a sound from you you worthless piece of shit"
"If you hadn't talked back this wouldn't have happened" Mrs Swift commented tucking into the meal Romeo had slaved over.
At this point Romeo was too tired to fight it, instead he weakly held his middle finger up before strolling up the stairs ignoring his dads shouting from behind him.
Collapsing into bed Romeo's stomach growled. This was his life and he couldn't seem to shake that. No matter how hard he tried he always seemed to end up back here.
