(A/N, IMPORTANT- Chapter has an anxiety/panic attack and is mostly here for a flash back. I'll pit a brief description of the chapter at the end for those who are looking to avoid the panic attack)
My phone buzzed as I walked to the locker rooms. "Hey Selwyn, what's my notification?"
Selwyn hesitated before answering, appearing next to me with a wary look on his face. "Happy birthday, Kamiko."
I stopped moving. "Oh."
Ten Years Ago ...
I laughed with my friends as we left the boba shop, tears coming out of my eyes from some joke or another.
Stefanie swung her arm around my shoulder, her dark brown curls bouncing carelessly. "Oh my god, I don't think I've laughed that hard since that one time you shot Dr. Pepper out of your nose!"
I groaned at the memory, crunching up my face. "That shit burned!"
The group erupted in another bout of cackles before Jenna caught her breath.
"All right, I think I've gotta go. My parents expect me home in five minutes.
Stefanie paused for a minute, looking her way. "Don't you live, like, thirty minutes from here?"
Jenna cursed, pulling out her phone to check. "Shit, you're right!"
Me and Stefanie laughed harder, arms on our stomaches.
I lightly elbowed Stefanie. "Why don't you drive her home? It'll be faster."
She nodded, wiping the tears from her eyes. "You got it, let's go, Jen!"
The two made a sprint away, stopping about ten steps away. "HAPPY SEVENTEENTH!" They shouted before continuing their run.
I grinned before walking towards the metro, strawberry boba in hand.
Once I got down there, I dropped my drink in shock.
There was a young kid on the tracks, probably still a toddler.
The lights on the side of the concrete were flashing, signaling the metro coming this way.
Time had slowed down as I watched the glaring light from the metro train race towards the toddler.
I cursed and jumped onto the tracks, my hands instinctively wrapped around the child's middle. I lifted them off the tracks and onto the platform above.
A woman, presumably the child's mother, took the child up into her arms before reaching her hand out for me.
Th train reached me first.
I didn't scream, didn't get a noise out before the train slammed into me, crushing every bone in my body.
I gasped for air, instead getting a mouth full of blood. My body went slack, blood pouring out of me. A single tear slipped out of my eyes as I let go.
My death was quicker than I'd thought it'd be, perhaps a mercy.
Now...
"-AM!" A voice pulls me out of the memory. "KAM!"
My blurred vision clears to reveal green hair. I gasp for breath, realizing I'm hyperventilating.
His hands are on my shoulders, and he's kneeling down in front of me.
When did I get down here?
I release another shakey breath and look at the boy in front of me.
His eyes are wide, and his brows are drawn together in concern. "What's happening?"
Selwyn replies for me as I realize he's here too. "Panic attack, it looks like she's calming down. Try to see if she's resposive."
Midoriya looks back over to me, making eye contact. "Kamiko?"
I nod, though it takes more effort than it should.
Selwyn takes over from there, lightly grabbing my hand. "Hey, Red." His voice is soft and gentle. "Can you tell me five things you can see?"
I look around, lightly rocking myself without really noticing. "There's-there's a hairtie on my, uh, on my wrist, you, Izuku, Katsuki's hair peaking behind the corner, and there's scratch marks on my arm."
Izuku turns to see Katsuki, but Selwyn just continues.
"You're doing good, Red. Four things you can feel?"
I run my free handup and down my arm. "The scar on my arm, the cloth of the uniform." I take another breath as the rocking slows. "Your hand on mine, and the concrete on my back."
He nodded encouragingly. "Three things you can hear?"
I pause, listening. "You're whirring a little, the crowd, and uh, Izuku is mumbling about how Katsuki should stop being a pussy and come out here if he's gonna come out here."
Izuku stopped mumbling, and snapped his head to where Katsuki was hiding.
Katsuki stomped out, and aggressively sat down next to me. "I'll kill you later, you damn Deku."
"Keep going, Red. Two things you can smell?"
I breathed deeply, my chest rising and falling evenly now. "Caramel, I think, and curry from one of the food stalls."
Katsuki blushed lightly, probably because he was the one who smelled like caramel.
Selwyn rubbed my hand with his thumbs. "And one thing you can taste?"
"Blood, I think I bit inside my cheek too hard again."
Selwyn released my hand and searched my eyes for panic. "You good?"
I nodded, getting up. "Yeah, I'm good."
Selwyn got up with me, as well as the two boys who'd walked in on this.
"Lunch?" I asked, looking at Selwyn.
He nodded and walked next to me.
Izuku and Katsuki followed behind me.
Summary: Kamiko gets a reminder of her birthday from Selwyn and has a flashback of her death, in which it is revealed she died the day of her seventeenth birthday on a night out. Kamiko has a panic attack, and Izuku, Katsuki, and mostly Selwyn help her through it.
