Bold-Cuts, Notes, and Pov

One year before the present

(Y/n) Pov

"What could grandfather want to talk about?" I walk through the room passing by animal skins and heads alike to where he sits. A living room decorated with carpets, ornate chairs, and a grand fireplace. He then gestures to me to sit with him, to which I do.

We sat in silence for a few minutes, and as I was getting ready to leave, he pulled me back down with something intriguing. "There's one last story I haven't told you yet. I thought it best to tell this one when you got a little older."

I raise my eyebrows slightly in surprise and turn towards him. "A few years before you were born, Ajay persuaded me to lead an expedition for--" "For some rich dentist," I say, finishing his sentence. He rolls his eyes and groans "Teenagers." "No--" But after thinking about it for a little bit. "Yes, some rich dentist," he doubles down.

"You've already told me all these stories," I reply flippantly. He raises his eyebrow, "The one about the former InGen CEO?" "Ye-- wait-wait-wait, what!?" Grandfather looks at me rather smugly before continuing. "This was supposed to be the big prize, the last hunt." I listened intently. "And it was, just not the way I wanted it to be," he says with a glazed look in his eye. "Why?" I questioned. "This was Ajay's last hunt," he drops. My eyes widen at the revelation. "Where did you go? what kil--" "The reason I am telling you this is because I learned something that day, something important."

(Narrator) Pov

Y/n leans in closer to absorb whatever it is his grandfather is about to say. "If you have people that you love, people that you hold close to your heart. Fight Y/n, fight to protect and keep them with you, take it from the old man, you don't want to regret not doing those things."

The air sits tight, with only the crackling of fire and ticks of a clock to remind them that time is passing. Y/n's grandfather re-adjusts his posture and coughs a little bit, readying his voice. "That was the last thing I could offer to teach you," he says with somberness.

Y/n continues to look at him before quickly jumping out of the chair and capturing his grandfather in a bone-crushing hug nearly squeezing the life out of him. "I will," Y/n tells him with conviction. "Yes, well you know you don't have to crush these old bones to tell me that right," he says with a hearty laugh. "Maybe putting you on that exercise and diet routine was the wrong idea," he quips.

Y/n lets go of him before standing back up. "Well, if you did that, I wouldn't be able to do or use anything you've taught me," "I suppose not," his grandfather chuckles.

Black Fade into the Present

(Narrator) Pov:

"Alright that should be all of it," Y/n says, wiping a bead of sweat off his brow. "Is it now?" a voice says from behind him. Y/n turns to see his grandpa with a rectangular case strung over his body. "They're seriously going to let me take that?!" Y/n exclaims with a dropped jaw. "Well, I had to pull some strings and break a few noses but yeah they will, just keep silent about it," Grandpa explains, handing the case over.

Y/n brushes his fingers along the hard leather case. "I guess you still have some fight left in you." Y/n chips, walking to the ferry. "Who do you take me for Y/n, you live at my ranch," he remarks. Y/n throws his hands up in defense. The ferry begins to leave the dock. "Alright, alright, you win. I'll see you when I see you Grandpa Roland-- Oouu! And I hid your favorite trophy somewhere around the house!" Y/n tells him.
