𝐉𝐔𝐍𝐈𝐏𝐄𝐑 𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐑𝐈𝐒𝐎𝐍 𝐀𝐋𝐖𝐀𝐘𝐒 𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓 that her best friend's older sister was the most beautiful girl she's ever met. All the Black sisters were, but there was something about Bellatrix Black that drew her in like a magnet. She found herself constantly stealing glances at the older girl, admiring her sharp wit, her commanding presence, and her striking features.

The only problem was that Bellatrix was a pureblood. Purebloods believed that Muggle-borns were unworthy of learning magic and raised their children the same way. Andromeda wasn't big on those beliefs like her older sister was, and she became fast friends with Juniper during their transfiguration class first year.

"Welcome, welcome to another year at Hogwarts!" The headmaster, Professor Dumbledore, beamed as he stepped up to the podium at the front of the Great Hall for his annual start-of-term speech.

Juniper never paid attention during Dumbledore's speeches. It was the same thing every year. He'd remind them that the Forbidden Forest was off limits to all students and give them a few reminders from their caretaker, Mr. Filch. He'd introduce the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher – there was a new one every year – and occasionally talk about news going on in the wizarding world.

Juniper made eye contact with Andromeda over at the Slytherin table; the pureblood put her head in the palm of her hand and pretended to snore, making the Muggle-born giggle. Bellatrix side-eyed her sister and nudged her with her elbow, a scowl on her lips.

". . .On a more sombering note, I feel it's my duty to inform you of the rise of a very dark power," Dumbledore continued, his voice losing its usual cheerfulness. The smile faded from Juniper's lips, and a thick silence fell over the Hall. "There hasn't been a threat this dangerous since Grindelwald. A Dark Lord whose name is far too chilling to speak has been collecting followers trained in the Dark Arts known as Death Eaters. I would recommend caution . . . to all during these dark times. Now, off to bed! Pip, pip!"

"That sure was cheerful," Ted Tonks, another Hufflepuff Muggle-born, mumbled as they stood up to retire to their common room for the night.

"Right?" Juniper agreed, chuckling uncomfortably. "Like, I understand that it's so we're aware of everything going on, but all it's gonna do is keep most of us up at night . . . Y-You know, the younger kids," she added, her face flushing. "Cause I'm fifteen and I'm not afraid of anything."

Ted laughed softly at this. They turned a corner, following their housemates downstairs. "No, it's normal to be frightened. Dark magic isn't something to take lightly. You're June, right?"
