While her fellow Hufflepuffs were getting ready for a party in the common room to celebrate the end of the first week back, Juniper skipped down the corridor in search of the youngest Black sister. Andromeda was in the library catching up on homework, and Bellatrix had been avoiding her ever since their conversation in the tree.
She wished she could say she was surprised, but given that they both came from completely different backgrounds and weren't exactly friends, she sort of understood. Part of her thought that they had connected that day, but clearly Bellatrix didn't think the same.
"Cissa!" Juniper called out to the blonde when she spotted her at the end of the charms corridor. She was talking with 4th year Slytherin, Lucius Malfoy, who scowled when he saw her.
"Juni, hi!" Narcissa smiled.
"Well, Narcissa, I must say I am surprised with you," Lucius said coldly, narrowing his eyes at Juniper. "Someone of your status associating with such filth."
"Juniper is my friend, Lucius." Narcissa glared at the older boy.
"What would your parents say if they knew you were . . . friends . . . with a Mudblood?"
Narcissa lowered her gaze at the mention of her parents. Things at home were bad enough as it was without Cygnus and Druella knowing who their daughters were friends with at school.
"Watch your mouth, Malfoy." Juniper stood up straighter, making sure that her gold Prefect's badge could be seen. The boy sneered at her before walking away. Juniper stuck her tongue out at him with a disgusted look on her face. "Ugh, he's the worst. He's just about as bad as Lestrange."
"Rodolphus is much worse, trust me." Narcissa sighed. "So, what's up?"
"You don't have any plans tonight do you?" Juniper asked, an adventurous glint in her eyes.
Narcissa shook her head. "No. Why?"
"Well, this morning when the mail arrived, I got a package from my mum and dad." Juniper grinned. "How would you like a lesson in archery?"
Narcissa's eyes lit up, and she nodded eagerly. Ten minutes later, they were out in the courtyard with everything set up. It was a warm evening with a gentle, cool breeze rustling the trees. The setting sun casted a glowing orange hue over the stone path, and it made Narcissa's blonde locks look like threads of gold.
