𝐁𝐄𝐋𝐋𝐀𝐓𝐑𝐈𝐗 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐕𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐂𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐒𝐑𝐎𝐎𝐌 with her head down after classes on Monday, her book bag slung over her shoulder. Juniper was hurrying to catch up with her as she darted down the hallway.

"Hey, Bellatrix, wait up!"

Bellatrix turned around, scowling when she saw Juniper coming towards her. She slowed her pace, reluctantly stopping to allow the younger girl to catch up to her.

"What do you want, Muddy?" she asked once Juniper had joined her.

Juniper ignored the sting of Bellatrix's words, determined to have a conversation with the other girl no matter how frosty she was being. "I just wanted to talk to you," she said, her voice steady despite the slight tremble in her hands. "I . . . I wanted to apologize for the other night. I shouldn't have gone against your wishes and taught Narcissa archery. I was out of line, and you had every right to get angry with me."

Of course, Juniper didn't actually think that she should be the one apologizing. She didn't see why Bellatrix thought she was in the wrong; Narcissa wanted to learn something new and Juniper had the resources to teach her.

But if apologizing meant that Bellatrix would get over whatever problems she had with her, she had to try.

Bellatrix scoffed. "Awe. You're apologizing? How adorable." She rolled her eyes and continued down the corridor. Determined, Juniper followed.

"Why do you hate me so much? Honestly, Bellatrix, what did I ever do to you? I thought we were making progress that day in the tree, but now you're giving me the cold shoulder again. Why?"

Bellatrix stopped abruptly, causing Juniper to almost collide with her. She whirled around to face Juniper, her eyes flashing with anger. "How many times do we have to go over this, Muddy? I don't have to give you any reason for why I despise you. Your very existence is enough for me to loathe you."

Juniper felt a pang of hurt, but she swallowed the lump in her throat, refusing to back down. "I don't believe that. There's got to be more to it than just my blood status."

Bellatrix's lips twisted into a sneer. "Oh, really? And what makes you think that, huh? You think you have me all figured out just because we had one conversation? You're delusional."

"I never said I had you figured out," Juniper replied, her voice still steady. "But I do know that there's something more going on here. You can't deny that there's a strange . . . connection between us. I feel it, and I know you feel it too. It's like it's fate. There's a reason why you can't seem to stay away from me, even when you claim to hate me so much."
