𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐈𝐑𝐒𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐉𝐔𝐍𝐈𝐏𝐄𝐑 𝐒𝐀𝐖 when she walked downstairs to the Hufflepuff common room on Saturday morning was Ted. He grinned when he saw her; he approached with a bouquet of yellow gerbera daisies and purple tulips.
"What's this for?" Juniper asked as she took the bouquet from her friend. She brushed her fingers across the soft petals, a smile spreading across her face.
"A little bird told me it was your birthday today." Ted shrugged.
"Andy?" Juniper questioned.
"That's the one," Ted confirmed, chuckling. "So, I wanted to be the very first to wish you a happy birthday, June. It's not every day you turn sixteen."
"Thanks, Eddie." Juniper hugged her friend before leaving the common room with him and walking downstairs to the Great Hall for breakfast.
Juniper thought of it as a gift from the universe that the very first Hogsmeade visit of the year had fallen on her birthday. Hogsmeade was the wizard village neighbouring Hogwarts, and on certain weekends, students in third year and above were allowed to visit as long as they had a signed permission form from a parent or guardian.
Juniper filled her plate with scrambled eggs, bacon, and waffles, chatting excitedly with Ted about what they would do when they got to Hogsmeade. Grabbing a butterbeer from the Three Broomsticks was a must, as was stocking up on sweets from Honeydukes. It was a beautiful autumn day, and she really wanted to bring her bow to practice shooting in the wide field surrounding the village. She'd be able to shoot a longer distance since she wouldn't be limited to the confines of the courtyard.
After breakfast, they met up with Andromeda and Narcissa. The youngest Black sister was grinning widely and skipping down the path; it was her very first Hogsmeade trip, and she'd been looking forward to it ever since she got her permission slip in the mail before term started.
Bellatrix walked a few feet behind them, her heart tugging with longing at the sound of Juniper's laughter that followed a joke Ted had made.
But it was the way that Andromeda looked at Juniper that really got to her.
They were friends. She knew they were friends. It was nothing more than that. They showed each other affection and spent nearly every minute of every day together. This was nothing new.
That could be Bellatrix if she could just push her family's beliefs out of her mind and admit that she didn't hate the petite brunette.
"Bella!" Andromeda turned around to face her sister as they entered the village. "Do you want to come get butterbeer with us? Cissy's been begging to do that first."
