CHAPTER NINE grilled cheese

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐁𝐈𝐓𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐖𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐖𝐄𝐃 𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐎 𝐒𝐏𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆, and with it, melting Bellatrix Black's icy heart. Glorious were the days that Juniper would spend with the older witch, sneaking around to secluded parts of the castle for privacy, conversations sitting up in trees, and the fun moments where one would introduce the other to something new.
Today, Juniper was forcing Bellatrix to try grilled cheese.
Bellatrix eyed the grilled cheese dubiously, her lips pulled into a slight frown. "Why on earth would you want me to eat that, Pip? It looks utterly revolting."
"Because it's delicious, Trixie," Juniper said as she flipped the grilled cheese over in the pan. The outside of the sourdough bread had been buttered, making it crispy and golden brown. The cheddar was melting out of the edges, frying to the crust of the sandwich. "Mum would make these for me all the time after school or whenever I was feeling sad. She'd pair it with the best homemade tomato soup. It's comforting."
"Comforting, you say?" Bellatrix raised a brow, a hint of skepticism still in her voice. "I fail to see how a greasy sandwich and a bowl of soup could bring comfort."
Juniper chuckled, turning to face her with a playful grin. "Try before you deny, Bella. Trust me, this combo is a game changer."
She placed the cooked sandwich on a plate. She cut it in half, placing one of the halves onto a separate plate for herself. She ladled out some tomato soup into a bowl. She placed it onto the plate with the grilled cheese half and carried it over to Bellatrix, who eyed the sandwich warily. "Are you sure it won't make me ill?"
"It's just bread, cheese, and tomatoes, Bella." Juniper giggled. "It won't make you ill, I promise. Have a little faith." She placed the plate in front of Bellatrix, her expression hopeful. "Just give it a chance. Please? For me?"
Bellatrix looked from the grilled cheese sandwich to Juniper's pleading gaze. She sighed, feigning annoyance. "Bloody hell, I can never say no to those doe eyes of yours."
She ate a small spoonful of soup before picking up the sandwich and taking a tentative bite. As she chewed, her eyes widened in surprise. The flavors melded together perfectly, the gooey cheese contrasting with the tanginess of the tomatoes.
"Well, I'll be damned," she muttered. "This is actually good."
"See? I told you." Juniper beamed. She pushed herself up onto the counter and took a bite out of her half, sighing softly in approval. It wasn't as good as her mother's, but it was still a comforting reminder of home.
